End of bandamp????
http://forum.bandamp.com/Announcements/33666.html
Please read and help out as you can!!!!
As per MUD (Bandamp site creator)
Hi everyone! Long time no see! [:D]
I apologize for not being more communicative. I've been putting all my energy into my startup the past four years- unfortunately, that did not seem to pay off [:dead:]
It's exciting to come back and see that there are a few people online right now, that I remember from way back in the day. You guys have done a great job of keeping things running!
So, I promised to let you know when this happened;
I'm down to the last of my finances, and am in debt to the government for a pretty penny. We need to figure out a way to pay for the server. The server is currently $100 per month, it's possible we could move the website to a cheaper server, however, I don't have the resources to fund that move (system administrators are expense, and it's not my expertise).
My question would be, does anyone here have the skills to move the website? That includes installing PosgreSQL, PHP, moving databases, and httpd.conf, ect... If there is, we can look for a more affordable server, this would be a great step forwards!
Next step would be some way to come up with the hosting fees each month. I notice there is a donation link, so maybe that is bringing in some revenue? Also, there is the possibilities of advertisements. Or, if there are members out there who would be able to pitch in a monthly $5, or something, we could put it all in a Google Wallet or Paypal account, and then pay it to the hosting company that way.
Does anyone know how much traffic we get now? Someone changed the Analytics a couple years back, and so not sure which one of you has the access [;)]
Cheers!

We need someone to take control I think, I nominate TK
We can all take control, when we know what to take control of and how
We need to find a way to keep this site going, a way that all parties involved are happy with.
I'm amazed Mud has kept it going so long at such costs,
but I'm also sure it could be done cheaper.
I'll tell you what would be good ... a show of hands .... who is around and following this
I'd love to know what everyone thinks of the situation
Good call M , bringing the thread to the top of the forums ....

It's a simple solution - we need MONEY - we need volunteers and agree how this money can be paid to Mud
I believe we need $100 per month. Keep it running as it is for now until we find a better way.
SO WHO IS IN - HOW MUCH CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE PER MONTH.

Happy Days
great news, I posted a link to a friend of mine that does web hosting, I'll call his this week,
I know to build a good server cost is around $5000.00 I'm sure it can be done cheaper, or find a used one that's been refurbished. I'm with mud though. If we search we could probably find something cloud based, as that is going to be the big thing (at least around here).

to move the site to another server we need a dedicated server virtual or physical. The main problem is that some basic scripts are running on FreeBSD Linux. So we have to install a real copy of the recent setup.
OR (!)
someone rewrites the site functions on a foreign system, thus we don't have any needs to make a 1:1 copy of the current system. That leads us back to former discussions when someone stumbled in like a hurricane

John Tobin aka the Swordfish
John Tobin .... you sound like a pirate ..... follow the link in Ms first post ... read Muds comments .... none of us can get clearer than that
It's the same old bandAMP frustration ... the only person who can really grab this situation by the cajones is Mud.
If you follow the link and read his posts you'll see he's kind of shaking them somewhat in your face already !
