Please Iszil, and others,

Enough has been said. Unfortunately locking this thread is not possible, seems that this function has been disabled very recently (slasherx might have something to do with this). So stop posting here, just let it go.

Well I can't lock out my own account for obvious reasons (data integrity of actually removing a user would probably cripple the site/primary keys on the db). That's hard for you to say without having any proof puppet. Your accusations about me not being grown up or not around are pretty inaccurate. In fact, you couldn't be more wrong. I spent countless nights and morning and weekends just working to keep the site from going down completely.

The base of this site is so poorly made that any person would have a hard time just coding work arounds for the limitations on the code and server. Why do you think entheon left? He could barely understand the code. And there is no point in me removing or "hacking" or disabling any feature on the site or box itself. I actually liked being on the site. The reason most features weren't implemented is that no one could figure out exactly what they wanted or how they wanted it. I keep reading about wanting a collaboration and then people disagreeing and nothing ever came of it because when I implemented a feature, no one was ever happy with the result despite ongoing work. What you don't understand is that this wasn't the only site I had to maintain. You may expect someone else to fix this site, but the reality is that it won't happen. If it does, the duty will be shared with other projects as well and you'd be back to square 1. Your best hope would be to get your hands dirty and do something about it. A few quick links for you puppet, http://www.php.net/ http://pear.php.net/ http://postgresql.org/ http://freebsd.org http://google.com/

You shouldn't judge a person without having all the facts.

Atleast I got you to clarify your motives, and provide more information about what's going on behind the curtains. That was my sole intention of throwing accusations, and it worked. "Iemand uit zijn tent lokken", as it is called in dutch, has no proper translation in english I'm afraid.

In the end... You cannot assume that we understand what's really going on if nobody ever shares this info. I'm glad you shed some light. And it's true that locking threads did work until very recently, so maybe you did change something causing this feature to fail. I'm just guessing here, it's not important anyway.

btw. I understand, and am capable of understanding a lot of things. Probably more than you can imagine.

You're making false accusations again. I stopped working on the code about 2 months back, so It wasn't me that broke anything. As for not sharing information, you're not really familiar with how a site works or security for that matter. If you come out and talk about holes in the site, then someone will come along and take advantage of those holes. They will have more motivation to try and take advantage of the situation. I could have come out and said, "database xyz is failing and the mail server is being bombarded with spam in the outbox and spamhaus flagged the server and there is a rootkit installed in the server because of other sites hosted having holes" but that would only hurt the cause and not much would be done without the resources to fix such problems anyways.

As for locking threads, it works. I just tested it out on this very same thread as I just unlocked it. You may have an issue with your browser or something. Good luck to you.

Wow, a lot has happened since I last read this.  There are also about 6 posts here that weren't there before.

I'm posting mainly to report that as a bug.

Oh, for the record, I am on slasherx's side with regards to explaining problems in a public forum.

Alright, I can't see how I was accusing you of anything in my last post, you must have completely misread the tone of that one.

I'm really not interested in in-depth technical details about why it's so hard to manage this site, but say for yourself, that if a programmer is leaving, what his last message would preferrably look like?

a) "Ok guys, I quit working on this site a month a go, and nothing is going to be implemented anyway and none of your requests will even be taken a look at, so good luck and bye bye"

or

b) "Unfortunately the base of this site is coded very poorly, plus there are problems with the server hosting this site, it requires way more maintenance than I can afford putting into it, since I have other projects to work on aswell. I can't help you anymore."

It's an attitude thing I suppose.

And - I wonder, from my own computers, the computers at my job, at my folks home, at the guy next door (who is a professional programmer himself), I still can't lock threads. A browser related problem no doubt

I just locked this other thread. You should probably catch up on those good old books then or ask your programmer friend to help you out. The last thing you should be doing is getting angry on the internet, it doesn't make a difference. Relax, have a beer, watch some tv instead. Best of luck to you, don't let anything get to you.

Anyways, this is the last post for sure, I swear folks. :P You guys keep playing your real music while I continue to be horrible at guitar hero 2.

Well you obviously don't have to be around 24/7 to have a site like bandAmp running!
The forums are kept as text files, hosting all the MP3s would be a challenge though !

PX, if the shit were to hit the fan and bandAmp were to become a 404 page, are you and JimK able to contact all the members with a plan 'b' ? or just an explanation ! When you have one !

Don't want to cause a stir, just asking!

Not sure. I know that the guy next door thinks this site is very crappy, his threat alarm software keeps going off the minute he comes on here, and he advises everyone to stay away from it. It's so bad that he refuses to come here again, really.

I don't think one has to be a genius to build a forum capable of hosting songs, with inbuilt players on it. I don't really wish to abandon BandAMP, I just would like to know what to expect of it. I mean, the slightest malfunction in the database, causing the interface to screw up, will render it useless, and will need human repair, and if this won't come then that would be the end of it. So, ... One had better be prepared for when that happens (it's not an 'if', it's a 'when')

I don't have personal info like emails and such, I can extract them in a rather crude way though, but would prefer people giving them themselves. It's not needed right away, but you know...
