Losers Dressing Room
*
Okay, I'm not the greatest singer in the world, but I'm happy with this wee tune.  Rough as per usual, but it's more about capturing the idea while it's still hot.

Lyrics are a little like this:

There's a bright light in the hallway
And a stop-sign in the doorway
And this years flowers stoop their heads and die
There's a notebook full of good will
And good intentions like an oilspill
And applause leaves you dry inside

There's only one door marked exit
And you're only one drink from forgetting
There's always someone that gets left behind

And the loneliest place
Is the losers dressing room
It's the bitter sweet taste of a love that you'll never know
And it's the sweethearts embrace when there's no more tomorrow
Just don't close the door when you leave

So it's gloves off with the mirror
You know it's rude to stare at a sinner
Just screw your eyes shut and maybe he'll go away
The phone's dead in its cradle
You know you're willing but disabled
The longest distance is always the final mile

There's only one door marked exit
And you're only one drink from forgetting
There's always someone that gets left behind

And the loneliest place
Is the losers dressing room
It's the bitter sweet taste of a love that you'll never know
And it's the sweethearts embrace when there's no more tomorrow
Just don't close the door when you leave
The last thing you lose is the key

It's getting brighter

And the loneliest place
Is the losers dressing room
It's the bitter sweet taste of a love that you'll never know
And it's the sweethearts embrace when there's no more tomorrow
Just don't close the door when you leave

Vocals are peaking badly. Kind of ruins (a little) the experience of what is otherwise a good song.

Nice guitar playing and your voice sounds fine for the song- just a shame about the production on the vocals.

agreed, it's a very good song and your vocals are good, but K. is right. the production is not so grate on the vocals... maybe you can fix that? all in all, it's real good!

Yeah, your voice is ok, and i general you make a good work here.
The melody is pretty nice, although the production is not good.

yes, you need to invest in better equipment FAST

you have been meddling with whatever crappy gear you have for FAR TOO LONG

and that does your talent NO JUSTICE!

so... go save up... but keep rocking while doing so!

I concur, it's ALL about the equipment... well, not all, but you have the other necessary parts already, so for you it's all about the equipment. Keep it up!

I don't know what stuff you record with - but if Iszil can get decent sounds out of his $3.00 mic, then you can too!!!
Perhaps if you can't afford new stuff you should examine your setup and see if recording quality can be improved somehow. I bet it can!  After all, the guiar comes through well.

The song itself is pretty nice though.  I like the vocal line, and the guitar playing's good.  It's a laid back song, only spoiled by the vocal recording (again)

You have talent - it needs to shine.

Good lord I loves me the feedback

Recording the guitar is no problem, I can process it in GarageBand to get the tone I want.  But the vocals always come out weak for some reason, too flat or they distort.  I've tried using the Apple webcam with built-in mic, the iSight and it doesn't improve the quality at all, there's a constant hiss.  When I use the built-in mic on the Powerbook, I get the hiss and whirr of the fan as it kicks in as soon as I start recording, unavoidable.  As soon as I get some decent cash put aside I guess I'll have to invest in a decent mic and a decent firewire pre-amp or summat to get the sound quality I want.

Any mic recommendations?  It's definitely all I need at the moment apart from the money to get it

It's all down to the mic or its absence.  When I was back in Ireland I did a recording with my mates studio mic and the difference was astronomical.  Having a cold that day means that I'd never let the recording see the light of day.  Any mic recommendations??

oh my...
I use to love it when jackson browne would come to m.s.s. and have a cassette (remember those?) in his hand, of himself and an acoustic that had his songs on it.. I really felt like I was back there listening to them or to him in the studio giving it to us..
That is exactly what this reminds me of.. very nice!

Blessings,

Dan
