Yes! but before every body starts putting e-mail addresses on the page , you must be aware that such things as 'bots' exist (Hey Triton ?) that can search pages on line for e-mail addresses !
Just a thought!

If you want to post an address , disguise it : kingsononedotcom at yahoo dot com , this is an address of mine.
Though I do think a 'central' address , like 'one address' for all would be a better idea than having a thousand members keeping a thousand members addresses. !!

What about just setting up a forum page somewhere on line , get PX or JimK to send the address out only to members (using the 'news-letter' idea) so they/we have it in an independent e-mail.

Every member must swear on pain of death to memories the address and then the e-mail will self destruct !

I do have the code for a forum with members somewhere, I could dig into it if 'site closure' is the worry!

Ha! Site closure , we'll have to go on strike and refuse to work !!! lol

what to do?
guys, I have thought about starting a yahoo group and
a mirc/dalnet site if anyone is interested? let me know
as I have already gotten the yahoo group up to the point
of just hitting enter to chisel it in stone!!

Ok Tell Me what to do..

Pup, Jim, JimUk, Jimd, swordfish, anyone and
everyone else involved, Kings, Marino, Spoon,
VK, etc etc etc etc..  Please Advise and give me
your words.. let your voices be heard..  I am not
doing this against anyone, or to get anything started
up other then a place that we could communicate
if the amp goes down again like it did a week or so
back!! it's a good idea anyway ya know!!!!

Blessings,

Dan - Blue

p.s. Mud, my wife said she would look at the code
if ya'll wanted her to...

So the main problem is that there's no active administration behind the site as we speak; the designated programmer ran off, and mud is non-responsive. In the best case scenario, he's on vacation. In the worst case scenario, he's too preoccupied with other things to bother with whatever happens to the site, and he's just letting it die...

BUT if anything goes wrong, either way, and this site would need human repair, then this won't come and it will go down. We all now the flimsy audio review interface screwups that occur every now and then...

So.. I'm personally not too fond of a yahoo group. Yahoo is clogged with ads, navigates slow, and the interface isn't all that either. Besides you can't really upload your stuff there... The best solution will be a setup quite similar to what BandAMP is, a forum with different subforums and an audio pool where one can upload one's own work. We should look amongst our own ranks to see if we have a programmer and someone willing to host, I'm ready to contribute my monthly share for that, if atleast a few others will do that aswell and the cost will be spread equally then a new site can still be free for most members and those who do pay won't really feel it at all.

Time for our lovely members to share their thoughts: (to be continued)

is it the point of hosting the site? costs? let me take a backup of all the good stuff here.
guiess its not the point of programming new things here. give me the sources and I can find someone who cares about the program.
if someone like the admins loose interests then it shouild be as it is.
on the other hand I always said to myself how can this site live without any commercials?
thats the way we all should go and present the site to radio stations and so on..... why not tv stations?
why not building ads to and from google or so? just to make it more public.
other sites are showing how it could work, bandamp doesnt. in the moment it has become a site for some personal things of a handfull of members. and I think the spirit of bandamping has gone very quickly. sad.

@kings:
I can leave my email here because no bot is visiting this site.
It's like I can put my hand into a fire cause its not burning
See the statistics.
but in case of yahoo I'd take care of my own stuff. yahoo is not a serious place for musicians

Programmer!!!
My wife's college degree is in C.I.S. Computer Information Sciences..
She loves to program, and is working at a job where they don't even
have computers! She said she would love to take over.. I know we
have not been stressing that. But we didn't know it was this critical
until now.. If mud wants her to, she said she would take that it...
as for hosting, if that's a concern, well I do have access to a full
blown, not being used server.. I was told we could use it for free..
(on dsl or cable modem hookup) as those are all he has and can't
afford a good dedicated computer line.. T1 - T3 is beyond our own
grasps.. If we all could put that together, then there you have it.. our
own web presence, bandamp server and programmer...
Pup, the only reason for a yahoo group is just a place to drop messages
and keep up with one another in the case the amp goes down for any
reason.. not to become our web presence, rather just where we would
have a contact point, if and while the amp was down.. I hate yahoo as
much if not more then anyone here.. especially the groups.. but would
just use one to keep up with what is goin on until we got the amp back
up and running after a crash or so on!

re: Break --- Bandamp China Syndrome
HENNY PENNY.................

THE SKY IS FALLING IN????

I really think we need to calm down here!!!!!
when I launched the thread about slasherx I didn't expect a goddam meltdown............!!!!!!
Dont f****n panic and wait fer a response from Mud fer gods sake...........
I feel in my bones he is as pissed off as we are and is tryin to sort out the programmer problem (Wishful Thinking here..)
Please give it time ............... say 5 weeks to get a response then all the solutions to an as yet non existent problem may be worthwhile........
in the meantime ............ just in case the sky really does fall in I suggest we all exercise our digits to ensure the communications stay open and cyberhug each other as never before ..... just in case we have to kiss our ass goodbye........

Please Dont 'Hothead' the situation further until the way ahead is clear........

I trust you all understand my view ?

Mr. SwordFish

i have a question
my mozilla fire fox has a tab that says show source code..... Is this the language this site is built with? .... what language did they use and how hard would it be to write up a data base site like this?......I'm sure it would not be easy but ..I have a guitar player friend who is a wiz with oracle and unix (db admin at sprint).  Plus my brother just put together a huge server for his company and he might be able to help us on the pricing.building of a big newer server (I know that the prices have gone done some from the old days) just some ideas as this site if not maintained will eventually crash or the server will load up and that will be it.  I will not spam another site here as that is bad taste and I love this site but if it crashes and we can't get another one up  go to my links on my home page now and I will have a link to a similar site (imho not as good but does have active programmers on 24/7).
free song uploads/collabs and something like a Im thing (shout box they call it).

        oops is that spamming lol

go to my links tab on my home page ....last link

Guys, calm down..
All I am saying is Lady Dawn is willing to try to replace
slasherx, and that we can post a yahoo groups page so
that if the bugs in the site cause problems, then we have
a place to keep up till the site could be put back online..
as for what I am saying about the sever, is that we have
at least a possible backup if we need it.. the computer -
server is infact there.. just the guy that has it can't get
any I.P. connection higher then a dsl or cable modem..
so anything more we would be on our own.. I believe I
even still was referring to "Mud" making those kind of
decisions, and if any of this was what he wanted, then it's
here for such!  And that if we did have the T1-T3 there
would be no stopping us from having our own bandamp
presence..
So you see SwordFish is right, let's not close the site and
start selling it off a chunk at the time over this line of very
low key conversation.. and let's not get the wrong idea from
the right spirit and frame of mind - meaning of my words!!
read them for what they are saying, not what you want to
hear...

Toasty : The 'view source' will give you the HTML and the Javascript on a page, but bandAmp is built in PHP (according to our X-slasher) and PHP stays on the server. So no you cant see it! Better start our own fresh script if its going to happen!
There are programs that can 'suck' whole sites off a server  on to your own deskTop, something like that would give us the whole site, to change and re-host!!! lol

as for the panic around 'Site Closure', well we all have Mud to thank for setting this little place up, but we also have to thank him for leaving us with an uncertain feeling towards its future! On the other hand we only have our selves to thank for having invested time in 'making' this site what it is but we will also only have our selves to kick if we loose it , not only the site but the community that we have here !

Hmmm..
personally, the idea I got from mud the second
time I spoke to him was he welcomed help and
at this point wanted a break...  gotta stand up
and walk around the room a few times to stretch
after sitting in one place to long day after day after
day!!  I didn't get the idea he wanted out.. or to
shut her down..  I agree with Fish about getting
ahead of yourselves..
I admit too, it's hard not knowing.....  there has been
a neat community built here.. hate to see it be
disturbed from it's present incarnation all the way
back to scratch.. oi vey...  oh well..

Bluey

I meant myself..
when I spoke of having to move around
instead of taking root in the same spot,
never moving from it.. I'm the one that's
pretty much glued to his arse!!!
just making sure it wasn't misunderstood
that I meant anyone else in that statement
about standing up and walking around the
room..

Alright, well, cool -

Anyway I got a response from mud, so that's great news! Secondly - ...

@swordfish: well it's good to really think about possible worst case scenarios and come up with backup plans, whether they are very realistic or not (the scenarios aswell as the plans). It keeps one sharp and alert, so there's your thing.

@tritonk: I agree with what you said there, becoming more public with bandamp is what we eventually should be looking for. I think a number of people such as yourself and kings have good views and ideas about making a site more interesting/succesful, so I suggest contacting mud with your ideas. In fact don't even hesitate to do this, it could result in a huge step forward for the whole site, and every member on it.
