violence and sex may sell but not everyone who likes it and listens to it is bad. otherwise it wouldnt sell, they would all just steal the records.

I think kids listen to this to either fulfill some kind of desire and anger, what they want to do but wouldnt because morality holds them back, or because they want to be cool in front of their friends.

There are fucked up people in the world, but music is not the reason they go out and kill someone, although, as blue said, i think music can heighten your emotion.

Its an interesting topic, which is not likely to be solved here.

Geez!  What a long winded conversation.  Im offended by the attitudes of some here.  Saying Rap is all about sex, drugs, and crime is like saying that all Country is about beer, horses and barn dances.  I see some here falling into the stereotype trap and it disappoints me.   I think a big point to be made here is that they are making more than any of us! WHY?  There is obviously a market for it.  What we should ask ourselves is why is there such a large demographic gravitating towards this form of expression?  And to those of you who have so conveniently summed up the genre I would ask: Whens the last time you listened to a rap song all the way through?  dont lie!  You heard that it was Rap and you shut it off immediately! So you are really not qualified to speak on the subject.  I havent heard a song talking about the things you mention in a long time.  It was a fad like anything else and its gone now.  The subject of this genre has changed, if you hadnt closed your ears due to your narrow vision you might have heard!  I think a few here have shown there #$% on this topic and its given me new insight.  I suppose its the consequence of diving into sensitive topics but ive definetely learned about more than just Rap today.

uh huh...
but it's a hell'va lot easier to listen
to Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Black
Sabbath and MotorHead..  If I have
to listen to the subject matters, then
why do I have to be forced to listen
to something very offensive to me?
When I was younger, if a person
had ridden around in their car blastin
the way they do now, I would have
been charged with several charges..
if I would have talked to an officer
or judge the way people do today,
I would have been charged and
sited... catch what I'm tryin to
say here?

So go blast your Motorhead, Blue and enjoy.  Its a sign of the times....  You dont know if the music is offensive or not because you havent listened! That is my whole point!   You dont know any of the lyrics so how can you say the lyrics are offensive?  And by the way, do you know how many black people are in jail?  What are they getting away with again?

Did you know that smack-heads cant listen to classical music, that's why they play it in large stations in the Netherlands (so I've heard on Radio) to keep them away! It must have something to do with the nervous system?
So there must be some actual physical/mental aspects that dictate what kind of music moves us!

Ultimately I blame the state, for having created situations where people feel so un-caredfor that they eventually don't care for themselves or each other!
Yet strangely enough it is usually from such poverty and hardship that true expression arise.

Map,
yes bro, I realize there are some lyrics of some of
the performers that are not as volatile as  others..
I.E. lil Kim..  but that wasn't my main grip remember,
just in the top two..  the other one was having so
little talent that this style of music has to sample
the "old tymerz" music just to have a melody line
and also make it aesthetically pleasing again, to make
money...  i.e. 2CRAP, JAH SUCK, FAT BOI LARDASS,
CANDY BOI(M&M), BONETHUGS IN HARMONY,
WU-TANG CALN, FREESTYLE FELLOWSHIP,
HYROGLYPHICS TEAM, BEASTIE BOYS which
are the top crews of the business... right?
Here you and I are racking our brains to compose
original material, and will our genius ever be completely
recgonized??  not when real talent is being muffled and
smothered out by the big fat greed machine continues
to rip off the real good ol classics and repackage them.
and to quote one of the big dogs on this system who
will remain nameless, "The Chants are not off the cuff,
they've worked on them for weeks even months just
to get them close enough to working the rhymes out!"
and "Urban Music is so simple.. it really does seem like
the Mac Daddys should have a leash and an organ grinders
cup/costume... " (and tha's not a black reference, it's a
reference towards any of the little show monkeys that
the promotion companies put on that pedestal for
young people to worship!) which I know you've seen
just how easily young ladies can be persuaded in a
life of things that can only lead to negative outcomes..
MAP?? you're a father now, just like I am.. hey
call me and I'll tell you a couple of stories about
where we lived in the outskirts of nashvegas (nastyville)
aka GaylordVille about trying to raise children and
even though you don't want to imprison them,
you don't want to throw them right in the fryin pan
now do you? I'll also tell you exactly why we left
the comforts of a nice big house and cushy jobs
just to get away from the big city - inner city plague
that was only then really getting very openly noticeable!
when the ganstas came on the scene, that was when it
sealed it for me bro. Hey you would be very surprised
at my cd collection.. Salt & Pepper, TLC, South Central
Cartel, Master P, 232 Wayne, Sublime..
See bro, being older only means I got to it first!!!
and that I do have a foundation to stand on in this
thread... but hey, it's one of the threads that is an ongoing
one and hasn't died out yet.. let's keep fueling the fire and
just see how long it continues.. right? I almost bet that
the mods won't be to annoyed with it as long as we're not
actually attacking anyone or showing any form of true
prejudice and bigotry.. which I for one, haven't.. hell I
have Ice T.. but again alot of what I have in my collection
was to keep up for d.j.ing purposes!!! ya know??  I for one
couldn't believe that Aerosmith caved in and sold out giving
endorsement to "What's his name" when he sampled Walk
This Way..  ya know? that kinda goes back to the hero thing..
its like O.G.'s there are no more heroes just like there are no
real O.G.'s since John Ghotty was shot down by feds in the
fifties.. but that isn't what all rap is about..
I do agree with ya's that most all shit kicking, roach stomping,
crying in your beer, screwing around, catching your spouse
screwing around, eating pork chops and making babies,
corn fed - corn bread music is all about  running moonshine,
being a cowboy, about beer, horses and barn dances.
Oh and "Why are so many kids of any race" in jail???
where is the glamor in doing time and getting out to run
with your crew, ending up shanked, shot or back in jail for life?
study this last paragraph real well and then talk to me bro...
WHY ARE THEY IN JAIL in the first place??  Why didn't
their parent(s) and even the system attempt to keep them out
in the first place? Ask anyone from any other country. they
will tell you it's a wild west show in the states right now.. My
take on that is, hell, can't wait till the boob from the lone star
state has cleared out his boots from under the First Family's
bed! ok thanks, good discussion and points taken as you
can see by a couple of my replies!

Blessings,

I think I forgot to mention a point in my comment, that what we largely consider to be rap, all the radio stuff... that's just a selection of, what I believe to be the most "rebellious" type of rap, and, essentially, that rebelliousness is in all types of music, as marino touched on earlier. I'm lead to believe, the first scene of rock'n'roll was a form of teenagers rebelling against their parents. Now there's all this rebellious attitude against the government, and I think the marginalised rap is presenting itself in an anarchistic way, rather than backing up with political scandals. This is what I expect is all about the shooting cops and breaking the law, and yes, this attitude presented in the rap is not just susceptible to the African Americans, this hate for power is everywhere, there's neighbourhoods in my town that are economically poor, and survive with drugs and theft and violence. There's groups of kids in school that show up to school when they want to, and disrespect everyone, because, they think this is the sole message in rap, that there is no positive influences, and that the small selection of the rap that they listen to and believe in, is about a physical reality, and a way of life.
It's sad how this small cross section has tainted that population.

Hey Blueyes, whatever the conversation, I find that picture offensive and unnecessary, I cant think of anything else that I know of on this site to be so out of context and directly linked to!
Someone please enlighten me.

hmm, yeah, I don't get it either...

Anyways, just listening to hal9000's grand master mouse, now that's an entertaining rap, and the original, and that whole style, and beastie boys etc. I have not probs with it, just not really accustomed to listening to it. But still, keeping it about the music is the key element. Very fortunate I listened to that song at that this point in time, reminding me that it's not all bad.

Cheers

KINGS,
I meant to put a warning up..  It was just to show
That your's truly wasn't as far removed as people
tend to believe!!  You guys aren't even aware of
the once very private secret society that was apart
of the MC/Dj underworld as it existed at one time!!
Again I apologize!! I got very "rapped up" in the
emotion and so simply forgot to put it up.. also
I was not aware that it would directly link like that.
I thought I would have to do an "a href" tag
before it would link like that.. I can remove it if need be..
But otherwise, again most of these people just
tend to only see (hear) what's on the surface.. when
there is so much more... I just wanna have fun!!

Blessings,

Blue!
