A Lighter shade (v2)
*

This song is not in a battle

Full title:
A Lighter Shade of Blue

So, it's been re-done (a second time!) - I've added drums and bass, and rerecorded the acoustic and lead guitars.

This really is a three chord wonder, just A D & E - with a couple of substitutions here and there!

Comments please - and if you feel like it, then vote too

I truly like this one...
The lyrics speak volumes....

This is what I remember most of why I like music... This style... it is very simplistic, and yet, conveys a complex and almost enigmatic emotion... ok, that was over the top wasn't it?   Let me just say, this is a REAL GOOD SONG....

    I love it.....

Hmmm - so you like it then Jim!

Well, after all the time that I seemed to have spent on this on - not on production really, more on just deciding what I wanted it to sound like - it's come out ok!

The original music is still in this track, as I used it to "fatten" up the background a bit, but I'm still not entirely happy with the overall finished article.  For example, I would still redo the 2nd lead part, which I think doesn't have the right effects; it lacks the punch that I wanted.  But I'm not doing it again.
(original track can be found http://forum.bandamp.com/Audio_Review/2562.html )

Anyway, glad you liked it!

do like the drumprogramming, well done, drumsound could be a bit enhanced though?

i wonder if this song would get better without the acoustic, but that could be caused by the fact i dont like the sound of it (i know its a drag to make a good acoustic sound too)

i understand what you mean about the 2nd solo, but its not that bad now

i do think you sing it quite well, comps, like the bass too,

all and all a good composition thats build well!

hey.. this is a different version than the earlier one...

I do think I liked that one better, seemed to have more feeling in there, or maybe the mix had more clarity, ...

however I like the drums on this...

nice new piece of software you got for that, I can tell

but all in all it's a nice tunage, has a nice coloration to it, just would have liked to hear more intensity in your vocals... right now it's just as if you're reading your lyrics out loud. not bad, but it can be better. The instrumentals are okay all btw....

cheers!

Hmmm, yes I think I did overdo the high EQ on the acoustic - but I'm not doing the mix again!!!

Still - I'll remember for the next song.

Thanks for the comments

I like the line "to get the measure of you"...well put.

This song keeps moving forward, and I don't get tired of listening to it.  The backing vocals are a nice touch.  Imo your vox do sound a bit strained in the higher register...like you're hesitating a bit because you're worried you won't hit the note.  Maybe it's just like Puppet said, you need some more intensity.

All in all, I love it! I vote

good job
I really like the vocal hook on this song. the mix is real good. the bass lines are real good (wished it had a little more seperation so it would stand out a little more). I like your vocals on this song. The harmonies are real good too. Great job on this song.

Great

this song builds...........stands up and shouts
the solo (electric) guitar is kind of at the back in the mix
vocals lovely and clear
I love the build all the way through.............doesnt run out of steam even when u go bak to smaller ensemble.................
Great to hear a song that doesnt waffle on for ages.
