A Lighter Shade of..
*

This song is not in a battle

A Lighter Shade of Blue

This is a really rough draft of a song I've had knocking around since the start of the year, but can't quite get the way I want.  It has no bass and no drums, and the recording quality is far from the best!!!

Lyrics are posted here: http://forum.bandamp.com/Lyrics_Review/16220.html

Tell me what you think - should I carry on and record it properly, or not bother?

really great song Jiminuk... I like it a lot too! even without drums and bass, it sounds fairly complete. You did a great mixing job and the vocals are crisp!

I like the feel on this song, don't know what the style reminds me of, but it's something pleasing to the ears!

job well done!

Well, thanks to all!!  I think I'd be mucking about with this song for so long trying to decide on its structure, that I sort of got fed up with it.

For your info, this really is a 3 chord wonder; A, D, and E. I do put in maybe one or two substitutions, but it's basically a very simple 12 bar blues-ish sort of thing.  And for anyone wanting to do the drums for me (JimK - nice sounds, and a good example of what it could be like), it's set at 100bpm

So OK then, I'll get on and do it properly - now, where's that guitar gone!!!

This is your best piece, in my opinion.  AS always though, I will only focus on the negative.

The harmonies are WAY off at certain parts.

This is screaming for a guitar solo, drums, bassline etc.

Recording needs some work.

I think you max out your range about 2 times.

Incredible songwriting though.  Finish this.

[edit] levels are also off.

"Lighter Shade of Blue" has a cool melody line and it's well sung by you.  Full band behind this one.  Harmonies work.  Good luck.  Mark Christopher

FEKKIN AWESOME!!
I've listened to it three times now and as I'm
posting this, it's going again!!! and won't hit
post till it's completely through.. I am so
damned impressed!!!
A Lighter Shade of ME!!!! (lol) I love it
when they write songs about me!!! *giggles*
I know what you're thinking, but hey I didn't
know Carley Simon back then!!! I wasn't old
enough!!!
  ;-)

Bro, this don't even need drums, a little bass
and maybe one other stringed instrument like
a very lite steel slide rhythm to just barely
come in under your guitar rhythm.. not to
over power it or even be loud enough to
rival it.. or maybe in the turn arounds, an
italian mandolin lick, or very distinct, long,
haunting strings..  if the bass is right here,
then drums would take away from.. (i.m.h.o.)

But as far as a critique?? I am at a loss for
words.. so FEKKIN AWESOME!! is all
I can think of!!! that and I gotta listen to
this just one more time before I go!!!!

oh that reminds me of something..  hey
ask me about the preacher and mom's
bbq ribs sometime, and I'll tell ya what
that reminds me of..... You'll get the
best deep hard laugh, as well as the
All Over Warm Fuzzies!!!

Blessings Bro,

Blue - Dan
