Well, I thought I could hear a violin at 1:11 and again at 1:23 playing an A, G, D, and E (in a very twiddly way!)

But yeah, you could do it on guitar using an expression pedal, or with some mean volume editing in the recording software.  But it still sounds like strings (or keyboard strings!)

you are one of the most talented song writers I've heard ( I had a song with almost the same gtr part as the intro but it was sung alot diffrent). I really like this song alot down loading it. I like all the added key parts, not real hip on the snare sound, but that's just getting picky on my part.  you have a good voice , but the best for me is your gtr solos.
