just thinking out loud here....
The thread about "peeing standing up"  kinda got me thinking.  lol  yikes!

Males seem to get slammed alot....for not being sensitive......to the needs of females.

But.....I think they are getting a bum rap.  If we looked at the ratio between females & males here, for example, one would find us women to be outnumbered.

If you were to surf through the lyrics here......alot of the songs are love songs.  Think of the tunes you know, past & present, that pertain to love.  There's a REALLY HIGH percentage written by men.

I just got to thinking that....well....men are more sensitive than they are getting credit for.  I know they are viewed as acting manly & scratching themselves & making all kinds of questionable noises.  Just look at sit-coms....where the Dad is portrayed as an idiot.....& his wife always comes to the rescue to bail him out of some predicament he's gotten himself into.  & I know that there are "bimbos" in the media too.......& women are sometimes portrayed as being slaves to our emotions.

I'm not trying to start a "war of the sexes" here.  not at all.  I just think that alot of men are deeper & more loving than they get credit for.  it shows in their lyrics.

& even without lyrics......(tommy emmanuel's Angelina is the most loving, touching instrumental i've heard in a LONG LONG time)  Jeff Becks' "'Cause we've ended as Lovers" is lovely too.

what do you all think?  am i way off in my observations?

this is deep moo
i think you are totally right. I just think i have been around men my whole life who dont show thier senstive side, and so when i get on here and read a love song written buy a man, im instantly befuddled. Its so amazing, men have such a preception of love, its nice for a chance to see that brought out. That and i find T.V shows totally degrading to men. I dont know any men like the one's displayed on t.v., its really giving people a warped veiw of the men in the world, (or the average american husband) and frankly i think its wrong.

So to all my brothers on the amp, heres to you!!

love your sister,
Sarah

Sister Sarah!
I'm Sister Mary Beth!  or....if my bro had his way.....Sister Mary Moo.

LMAO........deep moo.  love it.

I think it's wrong too.....showing the bumbling, stupid male.  I guess the characters on TV are just made up to catch the biggest laughs.....BUT.....i dunno.....it seems kinda hurtful against the male gender to me.

good points Sarah.  i'll join in.....

Here's to all the amp brothers from other mothers!

well......

ok.  Homer (God love 'im)  IS pretty funny.

I especially like the really early ones.....where the animation was very crude.

but........BUT........Homer......loves Marge to pieces.  remember when he first sees her?  her long blue hair flowing in the wind.....he's just GAGA over her.  so the writers......are sentimental fools too.

It's easier being Hardboiled, less slack from your mates, but if the truth be known, we all long for that all consuming deep into the heart type of love... As long as it doesn't interfere with football.

...and cars
and beer
and music
and ..... fishing !
and ......... and ....

Any one read Iron John by Robert Bly ?
It is a very good book about this very subject.
He is American and it is aimed at American men,
because of the stereo typical image of men American TV shows started creating ; Homer , Al Bundy etc

Male is the singular element of the universe , Female the collective.
So she makes a cake and He eats it, and everyone is happy !

.....but then there's She next door who want to make an even bigger and better cake, and He next door who wants to eat his own and someone else's cake ......

And then some clever shit creates soap operas, puts in a box so we can all see where we went wrong !

And everyone is happy !!!!!  Duh !

The stereotypical "dad" in sitcoms has traits that all men can relate to, but ofcourse in full exxageration. That's part of what makes the sitcom "funny".

Scientific experiments show that even female babies are so much more sensitive (as in Tactile Sensitivity) than male babies, that they don't even overlap:  the most sensitive male baby isn't even as sensitive as the least sensitive female baby! And as they grow up, females show a much stronger interest and awareness of social (human oriented) events around them, connecting much much more with other humans (and living things) around them than males, who are equally interested in living and inanimate things (car toys, building blocks).

So there is ofcourse a definite difference between the sexes when it comes to sensitivity (both tactile and in sense of social awareness/empathy etc). Females far outdo the males on that front.

That said, ofcourse men do have deep-rooted emotions and feelings, and though we cannot express them quite as effectively as females, we do feel the need to communicate sometimes, be it to other human beings or to, equally valued, inanimate objects such as car engines, whisky bottles, TV remotes, or in case of the odd musician, microphones rigged to a P-A. It is then when the true poet inside the man shows itself to the public (though it may not have been intentionally).

However, Don't get fooled by lovesongs! Artificially devised out of emotive word associations that seem to turn women on, So we can get to the business end of things ASAP. Efficiency is one of the things where males far outdo the females. Well, atleast that's one way of looking at it!

so.....Xeno?
Then..... all these love songs (& happy valentine's day btw...) are only designed to um.....get your monkey spanked?
well.....i guess it works...case in point:  groupies.

& Kings.....as long as it doesn't interfere with:
"cars
and beer
and music
and ..... fishing !"  i can agree with ya on 3 of those.....but i could never understand the car infatuation...lol

& hey......my last...um......."love"?  any time i picked up my guitar, he got jealous!  said it was a "distraction" from the 2 of us spending "quality" time together.  so I'd put my guitar down.....go join him on the couch......and proceed to watch Smackdown Wrestling. HOT D@MN!  (he's now watching wrestling from his OWN couch...lol)

The soap opera world is interesting isn't it?  all fantasy, money, pretty teeth & hair & not a zit in sight!  those people will screw anybody!   lolol,  i guess it's just escapism for people....watching other people's problems to forget about one's own problems.

Women are raised, i guess, to be nurturers/nesters....& men to go forth & hunt that buffalo.....still......

you guys can't fool me.....i KNOW deep down....you're all softies  (i won't tell anyone)

Hmmm - Valentine's day...
I bought my wife a couple of horror films, cos that's what she likes (and flowers too, as they always seem to be appreciated).  She bought me a couple of "girly" films (not porno girly, I mean romantic slush stuff) as I really like them.
We just finished watching 27 Dresses - my choice.
I don't really worry what people think about me (ok, that's not quite true - but it's fine if I don't come across as some butch guy, cos I'm not.)
So where am I going with this?  Who knows!  Like initial thread by Mary Beth I guess I'm just thinking aloud.
