i have absolutely no intention of starting the debate back up about it being "right" or "wrong" to post a link in the Pit.. I'd like to find a future solution though, particularly with talk of recoding the site.  Design is important.

I'm not going to hijack the thread, but maybe if people have an opinion, you can PM me.  Or, if you really feel like it, we can start a thread in the ideas/feedback forum..

To be very brief in conversation, here is my thought:  What if there was an area where you could list and search through links posted by other people, but only if this big list were simply the links taken from everybody's profile Links tab?  That way, the only way links could get in the list would be if you listed them there on your own music tab.  There would be very little commentary about "oh that site sucks, i've seen it before", or "OMG ITS THE BEST F'N SITE EVER, I RUN IT."  A user would be able to quickly sort through the links by author or whatever.  And if you think one guy is posting spammer links,  you can select to not see links from him.

Of course, if the user is bad enough and it's obvious that he's a spammer, the account would get blocked anyway.

[if you've got further ideas to suggest, PM me to put in the good word to my TODO list for the recoding attempt I'm trying to spread around... let's not pollute a random thread in the Pit with this kind of talk.]

I really feel there is a place for a section in band amp for this type of post , if you like a notice board , covering buy and sell gear and post to sites re comps and of course whole sale rs for equipment , having its own section places it squarely in the commercial corner of this site.
We recently posted a link to music oz ,unsigned band @ a song comp here in Australia with international section  , totally legit and with the nod from APRA .. oz performing right assoc , Oz street press commercial and Indy radio etc , the $30 per song upload is a squeak but that's the nature of the business these days I guess.
Any obvious spam
never lasts long here anyway the vigilant nail them quickly.

i think the same, but i'm trying to find a way to utilize the "links" tab that everyone has.  i'd be willing to bet that nobody just browses at random to different users' Links tabs.  It's too... random.  So I think peoples' links should be shared, via the interface we've already got.  Just present them in a page that looks like the rest of the forums, except it's just links.

lol i've NEVER went through ANYONES links, and cant remember if i have even added my own.
And I am known for my randomness too so...I think having a links forum would be great.
hopefully we wont be ridiculed as being spammers that way...

It's the Links code idea that I have worked into the bandAmp.us forum script.
I played with a few different scripts and used the one I could do the most with.
Why dont you use such a free php script and adapt it to your new bandamp site code?
I loved spending hours here : http://www.scriptdungeon.com/php_scripts.php , but there are many other sites as you know.

But getting all the links from members links pages should not be a big problem, what ever the bA php is for :  ALLmembers , links , display, embedded in a template page.

I'm liking the suggestions!!Can it be done or is it just talk?
Its a plan that might work!!!
How about a link tab that holds no comment but where the links can be rated from 1 to 5 stars, 5 being awesome quality and 1 is trash!

In addition to that, Marino, I'm thinking that people can bookmark others' links to put it on their own Link page as well.  That way, each link can have a "popularity" score, as well as a rating.  They could be sorted either way.

I've got it on my todo list...

Thanks for the link, kings

I would definately place a bandamp link on the music store sites and integrated forums.
why isnt Bandamp linked to google ads or sth like that?
why is Bandamp dealed behind closed doors?
why should Bandamp provide external sites if they dont do the same to Bandamp
why should someone biy stuff at musicstore321 or whatever?
Please buy a Porsche at my brothers car store!!!!! Best service ever.... who wants to get that link?
when does a link become a commercial character?
I would like to sell my music, or lyrics or whatever via internet.... is Bandamp the right platform?
If someone is interested in that things  people use search engines. dont they?

@Marino.... sorry my friend that you disliked my opinion but I didnt want to scare YOU nor get into that discussion with you personally....... See how great musician you are...

@Marino: I did not see your posts as stupid.... really

Bandamp needs a new face, a new administration and a new direction an organized leadership with scheduled plannings. So sad the moderators don't take part at this discussion.

i agree with the sentiment presented by the various sides here..   I don't have anything ready for up-scaling my idea for a site rewrite, but I'd like to see the community truly go open-source, with a Subversion repository and everything.

I want to make sure that the effort we put into a new site idea is well executed.  Once I get a little further along, it'll be easier for other people to add their skills to the project.

(*cough cough* I think that a person should only be a "moderator" if they have enough time to REALLY BE a moderator.)

I found your link helpful, I have used online gear stores for checking prices, I did not know about this one though,  it looks pretty good.  I know it looks like you have opened up a can of spam (worms) here, but the can was already opened you just reheated it.

@TK : Can you still access the site from within ?
I know you have had a 'non-reaction' from 'the other side' but if you were, theoretically speaking, to change the site , like put a links tab in which would simply show all members links alphabetically including the description, no commenting or voting , just links , could you still add the code and corresponding databases ?
Because you are as far as I know the only one who has actually done anything to the actual site that came from the actual users!
Have I asked you this before ? I dont know, I forget ! It's such a long on going issue!!

@TLS : Moderators are meant to keep the site clean, JimK does when it's necessary, I haven't seen PX in a while. But they are as far a way from it as we are when it comes to being able to develop the site.

@K : Dont keep your deals to your self !!! Post em, thats what a music site is about, you should just think about getting a job in advertising because you write very convincing adds !!
If all your posts generate so much activity you must be on to a good one !
