Melancholia V2

The is the first song off the EP. It has a real opening track sound to it. We had loads of takes of the start and ones with a real even chromatic part. But in the end myself and the guy I was recording the EP with decided we likes the uneven sound of the chromatic scales, gave it character.

Of course this was originally called 'Melancholic' but it just sounded lame. So here ya go

this song has piano, upright bass, electric bass and vocals in it.

VERSE 1

Welcome to this melancholic town,
she said with a spaced out stare that said everything.
Without anything at all,
But the expression on her face told a tale about the place.

I couldn't run,
And all of the etchings on the walls,
Suggested there'd been no apparent leisure here at all.

CHORUS

You've got a problem,
When you've got nowhere to hide,
And the walls that surround you,
Are the ones you've been assigned.

VERSE 2

Furthermore I'd been talked of here inside,
Before I'd even known I was going to arrive,
I smelt sabotage and treason in the air,
Men in uniform told me what to think and what to wear.

I was trapped inside the body of a beast,
I screamed and gnawed the inside with the edges of my teeth.

CHORUS

You've got a problem,
When you've got nowhere to hide,
And the walls that surround you,
Are the ones you've been assigned.

I think I am prefering this to the other piano tracks....

   Personal preference aside.....

I really like the way the bass fills this out, and again, it adds depth to your voice, and makes the whole experience more appealing..

That's all I have to say about that...

Hey a118,

Yes it's a double bass alright. They can sound a lot higher than that too. If the person playing it is good enough you can get them sounding like the high regions of a cello.

I was thinking of doing a breakaway bit. But in the end I didn't think it needed it. The song itself is a good length and it has that weird piano bit at the start and I don't feel it actually gets dull. but I'm working on some really weird piano tracks now which I hope to record soon. Keep in mind I was only 15 when i wrote this!

awesome song, really good voice. Good production

I think all the singing parts should be played slower, if not the whole song, the piano rushes too much in my opinion, really good song though, reminds me of Ryan Adams a lot, especially on Heartbreaker.

very good, nice writing. I love the way you used the upright, using the higher range, and then the low range. I also like the piano part. I was finding myself wanting a bit of percussion at times, maybe not even a full drum set, but something very light, maybe brushes, and a bit of cymbal (very light) just as an accent once in awhile. Another good one, thanks!

Great song.

Atmospheric - especially the bowed doublebass.

It's well constructed, well played, well sung, and pretty damn well recorded too.

Lovely, very nice indeed.
