This song is not in a battle

Probably not to the musical tastes of many here and most will probably agree that the title is remarkably apt. However, I am open to any and all feedback. Please feel free to take the piss out of the singing. It is not good but I wanted vocals so I did my best ( I really did!)

Thankyou in advance for any and all comments.

PS If you give up your time to listen to the track, please vote. 40%, 50%, whatever- it doesn't matter. It would help me to know that you feel that way and it would help my vote count for the January battle too Cheers.

very much to my musical taste!

although I must say the production quality isn't all that... doesn't really matter to my taste anyway. route it through a phatt P/A and no-one notices *atleast not until their ears start bleeding. so I'd better download it then

what did you use for drums? Can't really imagine sticking to 808 samples if you have the choice not to. Or is it a novation d-station perhaps?

actually I can't really take the piss out of anything in it. Except the production quality - needs some eqqing, compression etc... but I really enjoy it as a whole.

what am I forgetting to mention? ah, yea: I wanna hear more of your work!

WELL DONE

Thanks Puppet. I had braced myself for a barrage of abuse but your comments, if over-generous, have made my day!

The production quality isn't great, I know. It's my first effort at mixing/ recording and together with the fact that I'm using bottom-of-the-barrel equipment this goes a long way to explaining that.

And, yeah, the drums are through the Hammerhead Rhythm-station which is not ideal but the best that was easily, quickly and freely available. I was reasonably pleased with the final version so I thought I'd put it on here although I realise that it doesn't even compare with the vast majority of the work on Band-amp.
This is a great site and hearing the work of people such as yourself inspired me to create and exhibit something of my own.

Thanks again for your comments. Any recommendations on better ideas for drums would be gratefully received

This is a great sound - kind of reminds me of Dream Theatre.
I don't think there's any need to knock the vocals, they blend pretty well with the style of music.
Good track - keep it up.

Probably not what I'd usually listen to, but this isn't nearly as bad as you'd prepared me for!  As has been said, the production isn't great, but that's no biggie, I mean not everyone is gonna loads of expensive equipment.
Your vocals are nothing to be worried about; you keep them low in the mix, and use them in a way that reminds me a little of Tool.  (I like Tool =))

OMG, started slow, but I love the building up of suspense and I'm patient most of the time. Well...glad I took the time to listen. This is awesome! Tight, tight work. The vox is shaky but I wouldn't say there was piss in it, that's just downright mean However, they do work to your advantage in this type of song, very brooding. I'm glad you uploaded with vocals and subjected yourself to the wolves. All I can say is that you lack confidence in the notes you're going to sing, but sounds like you have a nice voice.
Very nice, I'm impressed, looking forward to hearing more.

Thanks
Thanks to all for the kind, supportive words. I was always aware of the flaws within the piece and what I was looking for, I suppose, was a response to the composition and the song itself and this I have received in a far better way than I had imagined. It does wonders for the confidence, especially since I know (or at least hope) my future work can only get better, production-wise at least.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and special thanks to those who commented and voted. I was hoping for a 'not bad'-60% rating so I'm extremely flattered by the votes so far!

Incidentally, well done to Timotheus for his observation. While I have heard little from Dream Theatre and know nothing at all of Porcupine Tree, Tool are definitely a large influence in my style and, while I tried to avoid drawing too heavily from any of my favourite artists, I was aware that that there was a certain 'Toolishness' in the overall feel of the song.

Cheers, and a Happy New Year to all!

So Cool
As said it reminded me of Porcupine Tree and Tool, too.  I like that you create much of the feeling with the bass line.  And those little highlights in the song  add some nice Pink Floyd feeling :-) This is an extraordinary track, awesome.
BTW your Vocals are great, for my taste they could be even more in front in the mix. Not much but only a little bit.

Keep up the work.

Hey I really dig this song.  Kinda reminds me of Dream Theatre, some nice progressive metalish rock something or other.  And don't worry about the voice, it fit with the music very well.

The only problems with your vocals is that I feel you are holding back.   I think if you sang out more, you would be suprised how good you sound.  don't be afraid! belt it out!   excellent song.

I like the song. Reminds me of old Stabbing Westward. Cool stuff man, keep it up. For the vocals I think they mend great with the tune. Don't worry about what the vocals sound to you. It sounds great to the rest of us. Hope to hear more from you. I think the mix is also really great. I can tell you put some time into this one. Great job. I think I will download this one.
