Anyone game for a fun little contest?
I've been a member on many forums, most of them not music-based, but I've had fun doing this contest on almost all of them.

It's a little chain game.  The aim is to basically record a cover of a song completely differently from how the original was recorded.  Examples I have done in the past: Dragostea Din Tei as an acoustic ballad, Changes as a Scottish jig, Hit Me Baby One More Time as a flamenco track etc.

I'll start the game off by doing, let's say, a Christina Aguilera track as a flamenco jam.  Once it's recorded and up, in the description of the song, I'll put up another challenge.  For example, "record a Whitesnake song in the style of 2Pac."  The first person to do so gets to issue the next challenge.

Eventually, once we've got enough people (10 to 15 worked well in the past) playing, we can start issuing direct challenges on the side to specific people.  For example, "Flyer, record a Lynyrd Skynyrd song in the style of Britney Spears."

The object is to have a laugh, which is why mixing and matching genres, or asking people of completely opposite styles to sing songs makes for more fun.

Before I go ahead and embarrass myself, I'd like to see a general response of people who are willing to partake in this fun.  Remember that once you are done with the challenge and have issued the next one, you can delete it after a few days if it's a source of embarrassment to you.

So, who will play?  I will record the first track on the 24th of August, so you've got until then to join.  I have a good idea of what I'll do, but if you've got something hilarious for me, throw it out here.

Hehe, sounds like fun. I probably won't get around to recording any time soon, but it sure is a good creative process for anyone picking up this challenge. I've been wanting to do "Get the party started" in KMFDM style for quite a while now, never got round to it. Who knows I might do it still... hehe.

I'm interested but I have to talk to Triton, we were planning a special rendition anyway but I have to ask him if he wants to join in and maybe modify the genre of the song we had in mine so we can fit it into the contest.
I'll PM him this thread.

I don't think you quite understand---this is an ongoing thing.  If the song you've done fits into the current theme, great, but it won't work otherwise.

Patience grasshopper.
This sounds like fun but time is tight at present so to participate properly will take some thought.
Great concept .

I would do it, if I thought I was a decent enough songwriter.
But I'm not.

Well it's a good thing then that someone's already done the hard part and written the songs!
