What's your favourite song lyric or quote and why?
There have been So many lines from So many songs that have meant So much to So many people.

So I would like to know yours, not whole songs "because it was the first time I got laid!", but special single liners that you either think are very good and worth sharing or if they have a deeper meaning for you.

As someone who writes lyrics I have plenty of my own (I might quote some later!) but I want to know about someone else's lyric that have touched you and why!

My favorite for a long time was the end of Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet :
"You and me babe, how about it!"
I find it simply so deep and profound and says a million moments !

One I have recently heard and think is amazing is The Corrs  Overcome :
"these women in the street pullin' out their hair my master's in the yard givin' light to the unaware".
If I listen closely the imagery within these words for me is quite bizarre!

Though this might seam like a joke, I REALLY love JimKs :
"I'm going to get some fries...I can see it in your eyes"
There's something so perfectly nonsensical about it! It's the mix of the two totally diverse worlds in one breath!
Yet it flows beautifully!
And, though I'd had the idea for a while, it was Jims lyric that spurred me to post this!

As for Quotes:
A good friend once said to me, and it still to this day brings one of those shining smiles to my face :
"Kings! Open the curtains and go outside!"
I don't actually think he realised what he was saying to me at the time, and a lot of people still don't !!!!! LOLSBTOTC miaw!

There's a few I love around bandamp too, I'll have to dig them up!
One that comes to mind now is a comment left (months ago now) somewhere by someone ?? :
"It's no wonder your girlfriend left you when you write such shitty lyrics"
Not really deep and meaningful but it split my sides!!!

This is my lot for now! Got any to ad?

- "Because theres heat beneath your winter let me in" - Duran Duran  - Lonely In Your Nightmare - Creates interesting feelings for me.

 - "This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I'll never tread
These are the dreams I'll dream instead
This is the joy that's seldom spread
These are the tears...
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel ?"

                                 - Annie Lennox - Why

"My love is in league with the freeway
Its passion will ride, as the cities fly by
And the tail-lights dissolve, in the coming of night
And the questions in thousands take flight"

                                - Robert Plant - Big Log

Ill add more later...

No Bone Movies......Ozzy Ozbourne   kinda dirty but there are smut addicts that this fits. I just like it it doesn't really mean anything special just think it's a cool verse.

Inspiration that's blue and uncut
Can't kick the habit, obsession of smut
Voyeur straining, in love with his hand
A poison passion, a pulsating gland

Bob Dillon

There's a wall of pride high and wide,
Can't see over to the other side

Nothing serene, romantic, or memorable for me... I really think the lines in the Aerosmith song "Falling in Love (is hard on the knees)" are just funny, especially:

Chip off the old block, and you're so much like your sister
My fantasising must be out of luck
My old libido has been blowing a transistor
I feel like I have been hit by a f*ck!

I liked it from the moment I heard the song.

I believe the lyric is If there's a Bustle in your Hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, it's just a spring clean for the May Queen.  Representing doing away with the troubles of your past, and starting anew.. Fresh as the May queen herself, a symbol of all that is new and fresh and beautiful.

I am deeply honored to have made your list kind sir... As for my own favorite lyric, I would have to say it is Steely Dan's "You've been saying your a Genius since you were 17, in the time I've known you, I still don't know what you mean. The Weekend in the college didn't turn out like you planned, the things that pass for knowledge I can't understand."

I think there's way too many lyrics I find deeply engaging to point out any set of "favorite" ones, but -
this one is just awesome:

Destined to Repeat (The Legendary Pink Dots)

Your face seems so familiar - I'm sure we've met some place before.
It could be we were lovers, maybe eye to eye in some... war.
With pulling faces, screaming like two imbeciles, two racing bayonets... We connect, it's unmistakable.

So don't look you look the other way,
Don't lie back and pretend that you are sleeping,
This is something we're too deep in...
We're destined to repeat.

Come to me my lover... Speak to me my enemy...
You cannot run away from me - we're destined to repeat / the circle can't be broken

Look this way my lover, look this way my enemy - we're driftwood on an endless sea...

destined to repeat

(repeat till fade )

I just love that kind of thang.

I love this one aswell, by The Sisters of Mercy:

You Could Be The One - The Sisters of Mercy

All God's children give good phone
I called Jesus, he's not home
So I'm so pleased to talk to you
Trees and walks I love them too
Threatened species they adore me,
Flower children never bore me
But all the things you share
Are better left unsaid
When you can keep me here
And run your fingers through my hair

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - We can meditate
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - Let's call it fate
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - To get your flowers pressed
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - Just get undressed

I'm so glad to find you here
Mystic people they're so gear
I don't like the rest
Your signs the best
Whatever it is
I'm most impressed
I don't need to understand
The laying on of hands
I'm in a hurry to get my collar straight
'Cause Life is short and I can't wait
But don't worry about the state
Of this pretty little thing in armour plate

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - We can meditate
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - Let's call it fate
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - To get your flowers pressed
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - Just get undressed

I'm so pleased that you believe
Now open up a little let the good times heave
We're going for a ride
Destiny can't be denied
But all those precious things are better left unsaid
When you can keep me here
And run your fingers though my hair

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - We can meditate
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - Let's call it fate
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - To get your flowers pressed
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, You could be the one - Just get undressed

Love (love love love love love love love)..., is all you need
(car door slams shut)

I know you were looking for one liners but lyrics as a whole speak more to me, and I could post tons that I'd love to share... But time is tight and so is server space, eventually!

... and why - I forgot to explain why I picked these two  - - - of the millions.
Because I can deeply relate to the first person's view on things ofcourse!

Can't Leave This Out
One of the best songs by the old master, and one of the best song lyrics ever:

Masters Of War (Bob Dylan)

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

"Tune in, drop out of love,
Pull the trigger, I'm a hippie,
So said a truth, in blood,
Alive and well,
You push the buttons."

Hey
There are a couple of mantras I can be caught going over from time to time. I just read Porcelaindoll's latest blog and one of them started ringing in my head again!

"I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never going to keep me down"

One of my favourite song lines has to be, "If I'm leaving with a broken heart you're leaving with a bleeding nose" from the song Cheating by Jettingham, because I find it funny.
My favourite lyrics have to be from What Do You Do by Papa Roach, some lines of it are:
"I got a one-way ticket on a hell-bound train
With nothing to lose and nothing to gain
Nobody ever taught me how to live
I'm feeling like I'm lost- like I'll never be found
I'm twisted and I'm turned around
Nobody ever taught me how to love
I'm hurting everybody, I'm hurting myself
I'm desperate
So what do you do
When it all comes down on you?
Do you run and hide
Or face the truth?
If you were to tell me that I'd die today
This is what I'd have to say
I never really had the time to live
"

Welcome to my Nightmare... I think your gunna like it......

Loving you is easy because your beautiful....

Cold Ethel..... If I live to be 80.. you'll still be waiting in refrigerator heaven!

What were you thinking to break a heart like mine?

While your out there getting where your going to, remember somebody loves you and wants
the same things too.....yea this, is My wish....

Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be, as a friend, as a friend, as a known memory...
I swear I don't have a gun, no I don't have a gun,....

When your soaring through the air, I will be your solid ground, take every chance you dare, I will
still be there when you come back down......

There are a few of my favorites... don't want to write a whole song!
