The future of music?
I came across these videos on youTube and thought that somebody here might like to see the future.

This also puts a pretty big spanner in the works when it come to the recent discussions going on here at bandAmp about 'real' music and 'electronic' music.

Check these out, they are videos of a 'Reactable', that's a table that reacts :

Well, it looks very cool.
But it seems to me that it is only a toy with which to make interesting sounds. The possibilities seem quite limited, especially since it seems to be in real-time.

Just a toy???    it's seems to me like a very advanced synth interface... I can imagine what people will start doing with that very soon... it's just like a hardware Jeskola Buzz... amazing! I WISH I HAD ONE!!!!!!!

Somehow, I don't think it'll be replacing anyone!  A few years ago, I went into the Science Museum in London and they had a demonstration of an "instrument" that you played by moving your arms (and legs, head, in fact any part of your body) around.  It was a seriously cool extremely expensive rig that was not only much easier to play than the REACTABLE, but IMO sounded one hell of a lot better too!

What this stuff does is push the limits of technology and creativity, which in turn leads to more advances in technology and, sometimes, something that's useful for the common man

But it is a great toy

Right it's coming up to Christmas, I posted this thread a month ago, Well, I was watching Johnathon Ross last night, the one with The Hamster on it, and would you believe it he produced from under his table a mini version of this very idea, a small hand sized flat surface, it produces different sounds as and how you place the 'sound' blocks on the surface.
So it is already a toy, I've titled this thread, 'The Future of Music', most people here disagree with me!
I'm sure were going to see more of this kind of thing.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the next faze of in-thing gadgets will be weird and wonderful ways of making digital music, I mean were already listening to So much music and a lot of people make their own music these days with the PC. So why not a Portable Movement Sensitive Lite Orchestra instead of the PSP?

Maybe it is
We can't know what the future will bring as technology keeps advancing. I do know that now you can take a computer and without having any actual intsruments produce full scores of sounds like a symphony. Almost all instruments have been sampled and available as plugin vst's. The more I read about what's being done the more I'm amazed at the power of computer generated music. esample: quote"

When I was scoring The Matrix Trilogy it would have been unthinkable to attempt to meet those challenges without the support of the most powerful weapon in my arsenal, Digital Performer.
