STOP AMERICAN CENSORSHIP!!
BandAmp is an american website as far as I know and there are many american members on here.
But I´m missing a discussion on bandAmp about SOPA which is gonna pass the US congress soon.
If SOPA may pass the congress successfully this won´t  affect only the rights for free speech & prosperity in USA, assort it will affect everyone all over the world.
If you are an US amper and wanna say "NO!!!" to suchlike rigid censorship here you can do . http://americancensorship.org/

ooh... I need to look into this, to understand the implications better.

The Dutch have fallen prey to internet censorship recently: thepiratebay.org is going to be blocked by our providers soon, as court ordered. There will be an appeal case... Else I'm just going to have to be a little bit more creative to get to my torrents. Like banning a site is going to stop piracy :P I'll just use a relay server to IP mask myself.

As thepiratebay itself puts it: the NL are now on par with North Korea, China and Saudi Arabia when it comes to internet censorship. Congratulations, free westerners!

WIKIPEDIA OFFLINE ON 18.1.11for 24 hrs
Anglophone Wikipedia, Minecraft and other websites will switch off their sites for 24 hrs. to protest about the SOPA and PIPA initiative in the US congress.

"Get up, stand up ! Stand up for ya rights!!1

This is the right time to raise your ass and kick asses,.................ain´t it??????????

Can someone here imagine what may happen to bandamp if this bill becomes law? No idea?
On bandamp is such a lot of cover versions uploaded. We might be one of the first sites going to be switched off due to copyright infringements.

This is a part of the bandamp rules:

(A) No Copies, No Covers

Do you have permission from the band and/or the owner of the original score? Then of coarse, you may upload them! … otherwise, keep reading…

The songs you submit to BandAMP must be original; written & composed by you, and/or your band. This is plain common good sense for yourself. By uploading your music you are agreeing to these Rules, therefore you would be held liable. And believe me, the RIAA and other associated corporations will go to great lengths to make your life miserable. Please do not submit plagiarized material, or we’ll be forced to suspend your account.

My suggestion is still
1. not to accept coverversions
2. to delete all covers here.

...since to MY understanding it is a copyright infringement. No matter if with SOPA or without it. But this is just my personal view.

ULI ... So on the one hand we have to protest but on the other we have to bow down to their demands and take every cover off bandAMP !

It's not about the song or the arts or any form of creativity with these corporate peasants it's all about the money.
the owners of thepiratebay were fined .... not because of the millions of films and hacked programs they offer but because of the money they made from adds.
I read on the bbc yesterday about a young guy who had started a links site (shackTV??) but is being forced to close it and pay a fine ... why the fine? He's made so many thousands on adds.

It's 2012 anyway .... the end of the world as we know it .... we'll get our fair share of natural disasters as we have had for the past few years ... but I think the biggest changes will be purely the human system .... the whole 2012 crap is a human creation from beginning to end, so we are the idiots who'll have to deal with the idiots !

Sure, it´s always about money. And it was always. And it will be for a long, long time.
Perhaps longer than 2012.

"Money makes the world going round". But the mayas didn´t know about that.
Let´s see what happens......................................................

Thanks for making me aware of this, ULI...Today I contacted my representatives in congress and also signed a petition to block SOPA and PIPA. To all American Bandamp members: please take a minute to visit these two links (one is Wikipedia, the other is Google). Send your elected officials a message that you don;t want SOPA and PIPA!! (Interestingly, tonight's news reports that most of the Congress' websites crashed today as a result of people sending protest messages - but it's not all over yet! Please respond!

The hope dies lastly. A first step is done.
I don´t remember that such a common action / protest had  that much influence on the legislative procedure of the USA. On the other hand they never planned to pass a law like this, which would affect the whole
world like this.

This is obviously all over the web these days.
I've just been reading about the Megaupload story, some interesting things being said :

"Europe's Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes also tweeted on the subject: "Glad tide is turning on #SOPA: don't need bad legislation when should be safeguarding benefits of open net... Speeding is illegal too: but you don't put speed bumps on the motorway."

And the comments sent in by readers mention bandcamp.com as a marketing system that works.

It does make me wonder what kind of role free sites like bandAMP play in the big picture. Hollywoods Jewish script writers see no money going around theses sites so I dont think we interest them at all ... even the covers ... there's just no money involved.

Maybe bandAMP could do the same ..... after all a free internet and the freedom to use it thats at the core of this very site.
As a mod I can only mod, I cant add script to the site code..... sie müssen sich an TK darüber reden

Senator Patrick Leahy Democrat for Vermont is the one who introduced the bill.  It was supposed to be targeted to curb or stop piracy.  The problem was the bill was to generic and would or could have effected other sites( like Bandamp ).  It would have given the gov. the ability to shut down any site they deemed inappropriate, or not inline with the big businesses who were behind this bill to begin with.
