I dont know if Vienna will work on a system without a Creative product, but it's Vienna you need to edit SF2s.
It's the program you use to decide which different sounds come under which keys or whether you have one sound/sample running along the whole keyboard range, changing with the note ... samples on the low keys then play slow and samples on the high keys play fast ....
You can also set up a note to be a one hit or a continuous note, the difference between a drum hit and a Violin for instance.
You can also make different Patches (sets of sounds/samples on key range) and Banks (sets of Patches), but then the SF2s do get very big, and might cause memory problems.
I've brought in some excellent ones ! seriously !
