If you are showing audio files in your recording software but can't hear them.. you need to tell your recording software what audio interface your listening through.. if it is your sound card .. then out put should be set to it.
if it is the recording interfaces then your recording input and output should be set to that.
in cubase it is found
at the top of the cubase page you have tabs like Files/edit/audio/midi/pool/transport/devices/window/help/upgrade
got to the devices button or tab. a drop down menu will appear. all the way down at the bottom is device set up.
depending on what version you have it should have one that says multitrack.. this is where you will set up your system buffer sizes,, which audio interface driver you want to use ect.
under that multitrack tab is vst system link.. this give you your inputs and output choices. If their is latency in you system you can use the offset to help compensate.
