music from around the world
I was thinking as there's so many nationalities on the amp it would be great if members could share what music they like in their countries
I know I'm always on the look out for new artists to discover and let face it what ever the country now days the music on the radio is pretty formated "Mid Atlantic"
Looking forward for new horizon

besides the usual rock, acoustic, alternative, inie, rnb, pop fare....

i also like some traditional music.

my fav from my region is the 'gamelan'. it's these brass gong-like instruments, kind of like xylophones too. There are different types, normally played in orchestra.
some video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nFwOp1_Rj4E
wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamelan

you know that tokyo drift song? it has gamelan in it.

and also, this is my favorite band from my country: seven collar t-shirt

Well, I don't listen traditional music very often, but there is one genre that I like a lot.  It's called "Son Jarocho", and it has heavy african influences mixed with spanish and native motives.  It uses a lyric structure similar to the blues, with a call & response base.

Here is a example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pxsUOYNRU0 excuse the poor quality... but it's youtube

Now days, a lot of bands play this genre with Jazz, blues and rock influences.

btw aetherius, i liked the video a lot.  Do you know anything about it from the music theory side?

Kailash Kher, Euphoria, Silk Route, Lucky Ali, Junoon, Atif Aslam and Strings are bands/artists from in and around India that I like.  The first is a Sufi poet, the second were one of the first mainstream "bands" in India, Silk Route is great folk, Lucky Ali is a very successful playback singer, Junoon were probably the first breakthrough rock band, Atif Aslam was the singer for Junoon and has a good solo career and Strings is a little bit of everything.

If you want more traditional, then Jagjit Singh is a brilliant at performing ghazals, Zakhir Hussein is the worlds foremost expert on the tabla, as well as being considered one of the best hand percussionists in the world and then of course there is Ravi Shankar.

This isn't really my own culture or a nationality, but I have always really liked Jewish styled music.
And heck, they have guys dancing with bottle on their hats. How cool is that?

I like a lot of traditional music, though I don't listen to it a whole lot. Jewish, Egyptian, Irish, gimme it all.

Being a 'Mochun Mon' there are certain songs that completely move my soul:
Here is a 'traditional' English Welsh song ;  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2U6QUrrTXg
This is a 'traditional' Welsh Welsh song used by Hollywood ;  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNonF2n4qdE
A 'traditional' song sung in the most traditional surroundings, the pub ;  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4hLbDFvROw
This is a dude I bumped into while surfing around one night, I REALLY like his style and is as fresh as a morning truffle ! So some "modern" 'traditional' music from my neck of the woods ; http://www.myspace.com/ymrhuw
