TASCAM MF-P01 4-Track Portastudio
Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying this 4-track cassete recorder (http://www.music123.com/TASCAM-MF-P01-Recording-Bundle-240893-i1125960.Music123)is there a way to move those songs from the tape to 'The AMP'?

Thanks
-Daniel

yep, the machine has a stereo line out... i'm pretty sure it would just be standard RCA cables, so plug them from output of your recorder into your LINE IN on your sound card, press play on the recorder and record on the computer and that's how you transfer from tape to WAVE or MP3.

The only problem is, the moment your audio hits that tape, the quality is degraded irreparably.

What purpose is this recorder likely to be for? If it is just for recording your band in your garage etc, then go for it if that is all your budget will allow. If however its for recording in your room you'd be better off recording straight into the PC and multitrack recording in software.

there is a ton of ways to get a  better recording than that 4 track ... unless you need it to be portable

here is something else to look at  the mixer interface combo  there are a bunch of these out there .
berhinger , peavey, alesis, yamaha, mackie, I think the all make a firewire mixer interface

this is just some options you can look at  there are also some good digital recorders that are portable but you'll spend a little more for them.

All you need is a line out from your casstte recorder to the line input of your sound card with any recording software.

This is one I use it's tolltaly FREE.

Ya I'm using it to record my band on a low budget-I've only got $150-. And portability is a major factor. I need to get it to our drummers house easily.

Thanks Chill, DaveUK, Denis, and ToastedGoat.

you looking to record separately though? one instrument at a time....?  can't even get stereo drums unfortunately on that tascam MF-P01 because you only got one track at a time recording... to tell you the truth i was in similar situation, i wanted to record a band with only a budget of about the same amount, i ended up getting a Fostex X-24 for the same price as that tascam, its a four track tape recorder somewhat similar to yours but the Fostex X-24 in particular has 4 track simultaneous recording (which is fairly hard to find on 4 track tape machines) so we were able to record live, but of course we didn't get all the mics and headphones and stuff your getting. From personal experience i really liked the 4 track tape recordings we used, after a while you get sick of all the hiss and narrow frequency range, we went out and bought a digital 16 track as our next medium for recording, but the analog tape gives a really nice warm sound that you don't get on digital, anyway you will see what I mean    I still think that tascam portastudio is a good deal.
