expandable quotes
Sometimes I write a review, and someone wants to comment on what I wrote. At the top of their review will be a blue band that says: "+ Simon wrote...". When I click on the "+" it expands to show what I wrote. This also results in me receiving an email telling me that someone responded to my review. Cool.

How do you do this?

i'm confused... doesn't the site already do that?  and when you click on the "quote" button at the top right corner of a person's post, the "subject" for the post is automatically "RE: (title of post that i'm replying to)"

do i just not understand what you're asking, maybe?

EDIT:

oh, wait... i think i just understood what you're saying

yeah... there's a little all-caps word in the upper right of every person's post box that says "QUOTE", which automatically brings you to the reply window with the quoted text in the reply box.  you can delete the text that you would rather not quote (for length's sake).

alternately, you can simply type the quote tag into your reply box.  it works the same as the [ b ] [ / b ] tags and stuff, except that you type the word "quote" between the [ and ].  there's also a button for this in the upper right corner of your reply window when you're writing a response.  3rd button from the right.

honestly, you can actually put anything in quotes like that, so don't pull a fake quote off on someone

for instance...

Easiest way is to click the 'Insert Quote' icon, which is top right above the text box (where you write your comments).
It automatically prints the code :
[quote]

[/quote]
on the page.

You then copy and paste the quoted text in-between the two code tags.

To show who your quoting put an '=NameOfGeekHere' after the first 'quote' but within the brackets :
[quote=someDude]Some dude says Hi[/quote]

That would be :
someDude wrote…
Some dude says Hi

Same for creating a link :
[url=http://www.kingsonone.com]click here to go to my home page[/url]

That would be : click here to go to my home page

Remember the http:// bit, I believe it needs a full address to work.

To show an image :
Would be :

Remember that the image must be hosted somewhere on-line, either your own private server or here on bandAmp in your 'album' page.

And to make a link of an image
[url=http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/]
[img]http://www.kingsonone.com/winImgs/FireFox.gif [/img][/url]

Comes out like this :

Click the image and see!

**Note, I've left a 'white space' after the web address and before the end code tag, otherwise I get odd symbols showing, do not use 'white space' in an address!**

Now let's see if it works for those whose DVD player always shows the time as 12:00

It worked
Kings, I always knew you were quotable. Now I have proved it!

Thanks for the wonderful and complete explanation. I'm so psyched up, I am going to go set up my DVD player!

Let me try this once more, and please tell me if it worked ...

I'm looking for things that people wrote
Present them out of context as a direct quote
Put them in blue "quote bands" in my reviews
Makes them all look like headline news

I know it will likely piss some people off
But what do I care? They're not my boss
I'll have a little fun but it's sure to pass
When bandamp throws me out on my ass

Some quotes are expandable, and others are expendable....
