You're Not The One I Love
At first I was attracted
By the darkness in your eyes
Struck by wicked wonder
As you spun your pack of lies
But the wonder’s started wearing thin
This witness won’t be swearing in
To sing your doubtful virtues
As you hasten my demise

You’ve got a lot of baggage
That you dragged down through the years
Bits and parts of broken hearts
That pass for souvenirs
Or glimmers of the notions
Behind your passion play -
You’d have to love enough for both of us
To take me down that way

(Refrain)
  Mama always told me
That the truth would set me free
If I settle for one virtue
  I should pray for honesty
I may always be a sinner
  But I’ll never tell a lie -
You’re not the one I love, babe
And you’ll never make me cry

You tell a lot of stories
But you’re leaving out the names
I’ve heard at least a dozen
All the endings sound the same
Someone loves and someone loses -
I’m not taking any bets -
I’m moving down the road, babe
I’m leaving no regrets

(Refrain)

Bitter sweet
Another great song Simon
Slightly shorter than your usual poetry but very singable
very good catchy chorus
I'm longing for someone to put music on your wonderful texts
Glad to have you back you were sourly missed

Funny, I don't usually comment on lyrics... not sure why!

But these are really excellent
They flow really well; hang together as stand-alone poetry, as well as sounding like song lyrics; and they really paint a clear picture too.

I like them

Excellent!!
This is superb, love it from start to finish.

Simon your on one ! This is inspirational !
I made a link to a Tom Jones / Jools Holland song in the Pit last week, this piece of your would fit into that style of music and expression perfectly!
There's nothing like a bit of truth to put you on the right track now is there?

Got to quote :

"You’ve got a lot of baggage
That you dragged down through the years
Bits and parts of broken hearts
That pass for souvenirs"

Wonderful !!!
