Weddings You Wished Were Yours |
so, Simon, you've gotten me back into the mood of posting my lyrics.. Again, these lyrics are rather old, compared to my current position in lyric-composing. If I were to record another of my older songs, this'd be the next one on the list. We'll see though. I may just skip ahead and record new things rather than trying to play "catch up" with the last 2 years.
This is actually a rewrite of a song I posted her long, long ago, called "For What It's Worth, I Hated The Rain". Honestly, it was a terrible recording, and vocally it was a very poor performance, and I knew that I had to redo the song. So, I changed the tone of the melody and rhythm a whole lot about a year after I was in Canada. It's now a very bouncy song, whereas the original was softer and had a strong "longing" tone to it.
Now, the song is called:
Weddings You Wished Were Yours
We're gonna sing till we're blue in the face
We're resolved that resolution won't come our way
We'll carry on till it turns early morning
Well, come, Sunrise--- we'll do it again
Standing afar off, on my own,
Under the impression I can't change
Are you there somewhere?
Far from my light lies a lie
That I'd rather not find
But you can feel it when you think of how homesick you are
chorus
We're gonna sing till we're blue in the face
We're resolved that resolution won't come our way
We'll carry on till it turns early morning
Well, come, Sunrise--- we'll do it again
Home is just another place we go,
And there's always something new to show to the ones who can't but look around and scream
Well, whatever works is best, I guess
Searching and slipping,
you're making your way to the front of the crowd
so you can see what this is all about
You're chasing me down
But much to my surprise,
I hadn't moved and inch
Then, holding to the life I drew,
I lied to you,
I lied to you
And you can sense it in my voice how,
how we tried so
(to them: ) hard,
(to us: ) desperately,
to move along
chorus
We're gonna sing till we're blue in the face
We're resolved that resolution won't come our way
We'll carry on till it turns early morning
Well, come, Sunrise--- we'll do it again
Home is just another place we go,
And there's always something new to show to the ones who can't but look around and scream
Well, whatever works is best, I guess
I want to see your lovely face,
just one more time
But you weren't so satisfied,
so you flew home,
and now I've found why your colors make me feel alone.
some musical fooling around
Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
modified chorus
Home is just another place we go,
And there's always something new to show to the ones who can't---
the one's who can't---
We're gonna sing till we're blue in the face
We're resolved that resolution won't come our way
We'll carry on till it turns early morning
Welcome, Sunrise--- we'll do it again
Now our homes are nothing like we knew before
Trust us. We know.
Though... nobody ever cares
Stop us if you think you've heard this one before
Your love is a crime;
You break a neck,
catch a line
Stop us if you think you've heard this one before
you may notice an almost-direct quote from The Smiths 1987 song "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before"... I had my line written almost as it stands right now, but after hearing this Smiths song, I loved it and knew that the wording was closer to what I wanted to use myself. Thus, I suppose you could say I duped the line, but really, I'd consider it more of a tribute than a ripoff.
