Gonzo Blues |
It’s so strange to see you in a low dive like this
You were always one cut above,
Tell me are you here for the same reason as me
To drink away the last of our love?
Don’t fret, I won’t stay, you want me to leave
It’s written right there in your eyes,
I guess I don’t need to be Einstein to know
That you’ve heard enough of my lies.
I’ll let you and your friend sit down alone
You must have much to discuss,
And there’s nothing more that I want to say
About the bad things that happened to us.
CHORUS: I won’t burst into tears, I won’t burst into flames
I’ll live with the things that I choose,
There are worse fates for a man to endure
Than a bad case of gonzo blues.
Our hearts were young when first they were joined
As young as the world it seems,
We threw our fortunes into the fire
We lived on wild honey and dreams.
Your eyes were as fierce as the midday sun
As pale as the moon was your skin,
As awesome as armies, our unvanquished love
Could never be sullied by sin.
An ivory tower, a city with walls
A fortress set high from the plain,
Desire for you filled all of my days
All of days filled with pain.
CHORUS: I won’t burst into tears, I won’t burst into flames
I’m here to give you the news,
There are worse fates for a man to live with
Than a bad case of gonzo blues.
Now the sky is black and the flood has arrived
Seems there’s no end to this night
I fell in with low company
Couldn’t say what is wrong or what’s right
I’ve bitten each hand that reached down to help
I’ve torn up each contract I’ve signed
I burned all my bridges and never looked back
I left every good thing behind
So leave as you found me, this bar’s about closed
You can go without saying goodbye
There is no reason to regret what we’ve done
I’ll give you no reason to cry
CHORUS: I won’t burst into tears, I won’t burst into flames
I’m tired of searching for clues
There are worse fates for a man to live with
Than a bad case of gonzo blues.

I do. I have a rudimentary chord structure for this - knocked out on a junior acoustic guitar. Butif anyone outthere in band amp land wants to use these words for their own purposes go ahead - just give me a credit...
good, but |
Easy to like this. Its hard to critique words without lyrics. I get the feeling you know this. But lyrically, I think the chorus is too weak to carry the song, and too weak to support the last line, "Than a bad case of gonzo blues". It sounds like a folk song, but I don't think that's what you are going for. Rewrite the first two lines of the chorus and make it bite - every time you sing it.
Maybe when you put the whole song together you will prove me wrong.
