Well I never play the actuall base guitar, but you can get a petal for your electric (Or hybrid) that drops your guitar an octive. A bass is two octives down. And in that sense, you're pretty close. And then just riff like you would normally. Try out some rhythms.
I play the piano, and if you're just looking to support your guitar work and not really learn the instrument indepth you can figure out chords (Root third fifth-> major) (root fifth octive -> standard barrechord minor). Then you can comp with that level of knowledge.

Playing bass is not really anything like playing guitar. Just 'cause you play guitar doesn't mean you can play bass. It's totally different, rhythm and everything.
I don't have time now, but to get started you have to know how to position your right hand, or left hand if you are a lefty like me. I can't describe it, but go on youtube; there are some really great videos, especially from the great guy named Dalton, the username is expertvilliage, but yeah he makes some good vids.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IxHBW0YpZwthis is a good one. Sorry, I can't play anywhere near the well....... he doesnt explain the hand position, but imitate it, its not hard once you see it. And it will probably hurt your wrist for a while. When finger plucking, only you your middle and index fingers.
Don't go anywhere near popping and slapping if you're just learning. I also would recommend that you do not use a pick, pretty much ever.
Don't have time for more now..... sorry ^^
