run the line output (L not headphone out) into a compressor stomp box. should be relatively easy, and the compressor should be able to handle whatever feed the pedal is giving it. set the threshold on the compressor (the point at which it kicks in) to just under the max volume of the loudest preset on the pedal.

you should find that with another pedal acting as the middle man your amp should be happier about it. I use the compressor as an example here not for actual controlled compression but because with a high threshold it should be almost transparent. depending on the model you should also be able to set a negative gain level, thus reducing the output of your first pedal before it hits the amp.
