They always use playback in TV shows, unless it's a show dedicate to live performances.
I always enjoy watching videos of great band mocking at the show and TV in general for this cases. You can find in Youtube bands like Muse, Oasis or Iron Maiden playing on a TV show and messing around, each member with a different instrument and just laughing all the time.
Nobody likes to use playback. Hopefully for big bands they can give themselves the luxury of laugh and the shows and TV in general by doing whatever they want in stage. JPB is still a "small" artist so he has to make sure he does it well.

and (!) it depends on the show where youre acting
most of the tv shows use playback
just a few prefer live acts
But I am not quite sure that it's a full playback. Seems that Jims voice is still live
