Blowing in the Dust
© Lyrics by Brian Nelson and Ken Mathiesen August 2013

V1
Just read it in our small town paper
you are getting married later this month
And it hit me, your last name could've been mine
Got me thinking that could have been us

C
there was a time I called you mine
you sat next to me in my truck
drinking that homemade wine
doing our best to get stuck
now those days are like the sands of time
they are blowing with the dust

V2
I do recall a long summer that stretched into fall
I was so proud you were mine I thought I had it all
but I had to leave and our love didn't grow stronger
time just grew longer, until it was nothing at all

C
there was a time I called you mine
you sat next to me in my truck
drinking anything we could find
we loved each other so much
now those days are the sands of time
they are blowing with the dust

Bridge
someday when your home alone with a paper in your lap
you see my name where I saw yours and it takes you back

C
there was a time I called you mine
you sat next to me in my truck
drinking anything we could find
we loved each other so much
now those days are the sands of time
they are blowing with the dust

Outro
Those days are like the sands of time they are blowing with the dust
Those days are like the sands of time they are blowing with the dust

Another great sounding country track - nice feel.  I still think you can improve your vocal style, like I suggested before.

The guitars and slide are superb - Have you thought about doing an instrumental track?

Hi Brian ... and welcome to the amp..

man i love your style ....
magic country with awesome guitars all the way ...

i listened to your trax on soundcloud too...

only thing I've got as a niggle is that your voice sits into the guitar mix so well it struggles to come over the top and deliver the great lyrics!!!

Its all there but the mix is flooded a bit by guitars/band even in the mastered versions that just seem to be normalized so that any dynamics in the vocal are washed out

hope thats ok ... I love the music

Denis, like I said before my vocals are a work in progress and since I have only been singing as a performer for a couple years I work really hard at improving but it is going to take some time.  I think I am comfortable with the styling I am using now but it has change some from when this was recorded.

Swordfish,

I completely understand where you are coming from and it is something I struggled with when I made this EP.  I was orignally leaning towards an acoustic sound but I have full trust in my producer and let him work the arrangements.  I am a big fan of the arrangement and I think it came out great, with that said, I can hear, as y'all can, I am lacking some confidence in the vocals and I need to work on that.  Next EP will be much stronger.  I will be recording some acoustic working tapes soon and I will put them up here when we get them done.  Thanks your for your pointed comments, I really appreciate them.  -B

The whole production is really good, specially the guitar work. Even if it's not mastered this sounds great already. The only problem, as it has been pointed, it your vocals, but since you are aware of that and you are working on it then it's OK.
