She Lies
© Brian Nelson December 2014

She painted me into a corner, ya she boxed me in good
I’m facing decisions and choices I never thought I would
Don’t know where she thought this would lead
When she chose the bottle over her family

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies

She drinks in the dark, when she’s all alone
Hides her crimes from those in the next room
Some are just numb to her tricks and her lies
Little one’s hurt the most when they see her with their eyes

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies

No one suspected her, No one believes it’s true
But the whiskey on her breath convicts her
She had us all fooled
She threw it all away

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asked God to save her

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies

Hey B,
Welcome to bandAMP!
The composition is top notch with an interesting story too.  The instrumental is top notch and very well played and produced.
If I was to be picky, I'd say the Bass Drum is too strong in the mix for this piece and maybe re-do the vocals, it sounds like your hiding a little from the mic, you have a great story to tell, so why not bring it up a notch or two in the mix.

Thanks for listen Denis and I agree with you.  Once we finished remixing and mastering this track the vocals are much more pronounced.  (I couldn't upload that version because I haven't converted it from .wav to .mp3) I did post the link to the finished version.  My vocals are a work in progress and I am always looking for ways to improve.  I am my harshest critic and I can't tell you how much ANY input means.  Thanks again.

The Studio Mix is fine, although I still think you should work on the vocal. The vocal notes are not whole, it's as though you don't have enough air to get the notes out if that makes sense.  Practice doing long notes and try and make the sound level smooth and even, then experiment from singing soft and gradually getting louder keeping the dynamics as steady as you can. When you have practiced doing that for five minutes, re-record the track and compare just the vocal soloing it in the mix so you can hear the difference.  Hope that helps.

Hi mate
I like the smooth sound of this song , instrumentation authentic . I think the vocals could lift a notch in delivery , don't be shy you have a expressive soulful voice & the lyric is worth it. Thanks for sharing looking forward to more music .

Thanks, I've only been at this a short time and my confidence is growing with regards to the vocals. Looking forward to going back to the studio.  I think I've finally found my comfort zone.  This song was recorded in early March.  Thank you for your comments.  I appreciate it. -Brian

Sing in the shower, gargle, stand up straight and smile.
Well the smiling bit does help, relaxes the face but not always be applicable to the song being sung .... bit like this, very painful massage .... so no smiling on this one.

I think you have a very nice distinctive vocal style, good move bringing them forwards on the final mix.

Enjoyed very much, thanks for sharing.
