This song is not in a battle

A kind of a reflective song I wrote a couple days ago, this is an early mix, the guitar is just a 'rough track' that helped us get the form together, the drums and bass are final.  There will be acoustic guitar and other cool stuff.  Vox also.

Rough-in Guitar - Me
Synths etc - Me
Drums - Paul Geldart
Bass - Liam Duncan

Any tips?

Let me know your thoughts so far (mixing / mastering tips also welcomed).

THANKS!

Woot! Super excited to see you're going to be coming out with new stuff
This reminds me of a mix between The Cure and The Who. Very cool!!! Sounds like a really epic song and I can't wait to hear the vox. Do you have lyrics for it yet?
Even for a rough mix this sounds really good. You're very good at it.

LOVE the synthy breakdown thingy that happens like at around 1:15 or 1:20 wherever it is.
2:35 insanely epic. What'd you use to record all of this?

really cool!
drums are very alive, very good mixing, maybe the base is drowning a bit
guitar a bit thin here and there and very much on one side..
bass could use some work like comp and eq?
love to hear version with vox!

Great job Guys - some tweaking needed and obviously work on the guitar parts.
I sense the Bass and Bass drum may need to be recorded again, they don't cut through the mix. How are you recording the Bass guitar?
Ask your drummer to make sure he's happy with the tone of the kick, it should be less bassy than than the bass guitar so that the frequencies don't clash, in some cases the kick drum is bassier than the bass guitar, it's purely personal choice or more important what sounds better in this particular song. The other thing you will need to do is roll off the deep bass frequencies, about 60Hz, I use presets in Cubase for my recordings, but you may still want to tweak it - check your presets in your EQ plug-ins.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I really appreciate it!

Craig, I used Cockos REAPER, an AT2020 and bunch of Apex Condensers and Dynamic mics.
TASCAM US-1800 also.

Denis I Took your tip and I hope I effectively applied it in my mix that I have now.  I'm uploading it as I write this.

I like the progression and flow a lot

kick drum doesn't punch through like they said

my main complaint was your teaser at 2:31. Either use the buildup and put in the ROCK, or leave it chill and don't use that particular buildup.

oh wait then again you could be doing it with the singing so it depends I guess

What really caught my ears were how awesome the drum work sounded.  Very clean recordings all around.  What will the lyrics be like?

Is this the only upload you have of this song ... I'm SO sure I commented....

Love it in any case, that little lick is wonderful
I would like to hear this without the Red Hot Chilli Peppers bit in the middle and that guitar lick being carried on by the rhythm guitar .... so it's played on the strum as well as being picked

Very very catchy piece, get some 80s punky lyrics to spit at a dissatisfied crowd and your laughing !

Drums are recorded very well.
