Lamentation (concept)
*

This song is not in a battle

Been trying my hand at writing minimalist acoustic tunes, recording them with my nifty DAW-app on ipod, with it's inbuilt micro mic :P

It's a great way to quickly put song concepts together with just ac. guitar, ac. bass, a little percussion and vox. This song in particular, however, just aches to become a fully fledged, fully produced track, so it may be used one day for what it now suggests to be.

If there's any arrangement ideas or other suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Anyways, ... "enjoy"

cheers

well this has somehow medieval touch to me
sounds like a minstrel ballad. a pseudo 5/4 and 3/4 makes 2 x 4/4 so why not
how does it come that you step right into acoustic things?
But I like the idea and the recording quality isn't that bad at all

Nice...
In terms of arrangement, would like to hear some parts more flowing in rhythm.
Can you pan the vox in the middle with your app?

I have a recording app on my iPhone, but it's mono, I suppose you can export the tracks individually and master on software? - yeah it's great tool for getting ideas down quick

thanks - yes I am also pleasantly surprised with the recording quality of the micro mic, and I will surely expand on this concept, make a full tune out of it. But I will use my main equipment for that.

Going acoustic is a bit back to basics, not so much to redefine my music routines, but it allows me to be far more direct with putting inspiration to tape, going more "song" oriented instead of my usual weird psychedelic soundscaping approach.

Yes, the app gives full control over panning and volume, also comp and eq per track, up to 16 tracks - with metronome support and optional input monitoring - not a free app but doesn't cost a whole lot either.. See it here. Bringing the tracks to computer is awesome, just enable the WiFi function and it pops you an address for your browser, which gives you a menu page from which you can select what tracks you want to download, and in what format pretty pretty awesome

So yes I can pan the vox in the middle, but I opted to bring them left and right for wider stereo image. That is less headphone friendly, admittedly, and in the full version I surely will put the vox prominently in the middle.

I think I'll make the instrumental (Am) parts longer, with wavy Dead Can Dance like percussion, add celestial synth sounds etc.. but ideas have to crystalize a lot yet. Hence I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks

It´s something like a "campfire"-vibe . Yes, a bit medivial, too. A new, unknown aspect of "Puppet Xeno".
But, nevertheless, in my imagination thisone might be arranged with dark, fat sounding synth-pads, a growling bass , heavy beats, multi-layered vox and- of course- the ac-gits.

But it´s just my personal, individual  idea / imagination, vision

We´ll see what you´re gonna do with it.

wonderful idea:
ULI plays bass
PX has enough fat sounds on his keyboards and vsts
Maybe a tiny lead synth in the background
But is this the goal what PX actually wants to reach?

quite an app,  a sketch of a song,
needed some time to listen through the rawness, i got it now.
nice contrasts in the vocal expression, i enjoy
imagining a sort of 'Irishy folky' tune in the gaps of the vox and the rhytm.
a flute would be too much maybe, but anything is possible,
in some places a dirty distorted gtr riff accentuating the grand gestures.
other places a catchy melody line, clean or light distorted gtr, some 80's english..(with delays maybe?)
that all added too a decent set of vst toms(pauken?)/drums or bongo's, some bass, a little more polished acoustic gtr sound.
and a tight rhytm of course
or just give it the classic 'PX treat of the day'
throw it out

Yes and TK whacks something dark and delirious up on his well oiled Hammond

Yes Medieval was the first thing that came to my mind too.
You've put a lot of work into 'an idea', would you want to electrify this and supper charge it in a 'studio environment' as compared to the 'notepad environment'?
Delirious might be the word I was looking for, I can imagine this hymn becoming more and more delirious towards the end... synths spinning around booming bass hypnotic beats an electric pagan chant
