Same story as always... I came up with an idea for a new reggae riddim.

Can anyone help me out with a vocal melody?

take 8 different UB40 or Specials songs and take one vocal line out of each one, then shake, shift, cut and paste
 

Scales is the answer - Yes it can be boring, but it works.
Better to sing it. Try that for a few minutes, then listen to the track to see what pops in your head.

One of the things I do is to pick out the notes that sound nice with the chords, then just jam around with them., KEEP IT SIMPLE, little phrases will be enough because the rhythm section is doing most of the work. Keep jamming to it until you find something that will sound nice.

So yeah scales will get the creative melodies working for you
