Ghosts of Pompeii |
Are there many songs about Mt. Vesuvius here? Well here's another one. In this, the present-day narrator believes that he, in a past life, was present when the Italian volcano erupted in 79AD. This is his story...
I don't sleep at night
I can feel the heat of the red light
In the shadow cast
From the northwest edge of the compass
I remember back in winter of 62
Sacrifices to Augustus and the spirits around us
Burning oil, bridges, houses broke in two
Sacrifices to the chaos around us
Wipe the ash from the bath
In the heated aftermath
Let the future do the math
Of the mountain's wrath
I don't sleep at night
I can hear voices in red light
I'm not alone in my room
Corners hide shapes of the trembled
The Younger's words written in a book or two
Sacrifices to Augustus and the spirits around us
Burning oil, columns, houses broke in two
Sacrifices to the chaos around us
Wipe the ash from the bath
In the heated aftermath
Let the future do the math
Of the mountain's wrath
Under Stabian Gate
I can hear whispers around me
Pliny narrate
And the tale of two doomed cities
In our world lingers Romans not alive
Sacrifices to Augustus and the feelings around us
Burning oil, bridges, families broke in two
Sacrifices to the chaos around us
Wipe the ash from the bath
In the heated aftermath
Let the future do the math
Of the mountain's wrath
I don't sleep at night
I'm awake from the stare of the streetlight
I don't sleep at night
I can feel the heat of the red light
In the shadow cast
From the northwest edge of the compass

If I could give you 9.9 I would....I'm really liking your style.
It's like a history lesson.....I love the idea and the reality you've created. A really good production.
So you do everything your self?
Absolutely love the chorus....we need more songs like this....I remember back in 62 lol very very good!
The 0.1 I'm withholding is for the few miss placed words with too many syllables eg the first 'sacrifices'.
Otherwise the whole history of music can go this way as far as I'm concerned.....who needs soppy love songs and bling rap when you can be educated every day through your radio.

Thanks for the high score! I've been recording music a long time and have done the soppy love songs and raps. So I do get adventurous like this from time to time. And yes, I do everything myself. My cousin will occasionally contribute a bass line, but this one was all me. I like to work my non-musical interests into my music. It can be a challenge sometimes.
