It’s in the battle 2009-09

This was originally supposed to be a song about a pregnant woman drinking away her sorrows of unwanted pregnancy but that quickly came off as a bit to morbid so I went for a more universal theme. This was a first attempt at a long standing goal of writing a drinking song. Just a rough draft for now, features guitar, voice, and mandolin. Thanks for listening.

Drink a round all ye haggard
and damn dirty beggars
We band of brothers, ye happy few!
And won't you sit down your ass
And raise up your glass!
'Cause tonight I'm drinking for two.

So drink a round down my brother
And beg for another!
The hour's still early and I've had a few!
They'll be hell come the morrow
An' I remember my sorrow
Oh but tonight I'm drinkin' for two!

chorus

You see my baby's a quitter
But she's here in my liver.
An' every fresh mug that they brew.
See she told me to leave
Said she found a new squeeze.
So tonight I'm drinkin' for two.

So drink a round down my brother
And beg for another!
The hour's still early and I've had a few!
They'll be hell come the morrow
An' I remember my sorrow
Oh but tonight I'm drinkin' for her!

So drink a round down my brother
And pass me another!
The hour's still early and I've had a few!
They'll be hell come the morrow
An' I remember my sorrow
Oh but tonight I'm drinkin' for two!
Oh but tonight I'm drinkin' for two!
Oh but tonight I'm drinkin' for you!

Yeah, I can just imagine you performing this at a public house with everybody joining in with chorus.
Would be great if you can perform it live like ones you've uploaded before, run through the song with all the drinkers, that would be awesome

This is a great feel-good song..... yes , definitely one you'd  typically hear within a pub, especially a pub with a Canadian or European  atmosphere.... I can imagine like Denis mentioned,  the whole pub audience singing along cheerfully and just having a blast.... *maybe a few peanut shells on the floor etc  *s
*Great song and excellent lyrics.. *** well worth saving  this one to my playlist
*the only thing I would recommend at this point is to dub more vocals into it.... maybe even get some friends to join in  and record them singin in an open room.... would most surely give it more of that sing along feel
*Thanks for sharing ..... *loved it ~ !

Right! this one has potential!  Needs to be taken into full production! Group harmonies on the chorus and the whole bit! LOL! Cheers!  Add another guitar or two and get the whole sing along vibe going!  Very cool!

Cool! I love songs that I can personally relate to. I like the groove that this song has, actually makes me want to get a beer right now and listen a little longer. I am glad you got rid of the pregnant girl theme, I like the lyrics you ended up with!

Man, getting rid of the pregnant woman was an excellent choice. Boy that would have been depressing.

Sure it's a rough draft, but this song is great, I like it.

re: Drinking for Two
Fantastic song ........... and atmosphere........needs the guys in the bar ??
Its a folksy song well done
the recording quality is a bit 'far away' or quiet though
so its a mix thing

sounds like it was recorded on one mike---live....(with no drnk??)

so.. to improve???
eq on final ?? to crisp/push the sound

watch master level

so what???.... its a fun song

love it
