Strenght To Love

This song is not in a battle

Music: Denis
Lyrics: BasketCase

I initally wrote the music and with amazing luck manged to fit BasketCase lyrics into the song and just added one more line [it was his idea to try them out for the song], The lyrics below was how they were initally written.

I've got an old drummer friend who said he is going to try any record drums with an electronic kit. we'll see

STRENGHT TO LOVE

Another year has come and gone
How I miss your warmth in my arms
The love we burned can't be replaced
A distant memory that I can't escape
You gave me life, what it meant to live
Treasure you always your deep within
What was it you used to say to me?
Should've listened you'd be here with me

It took the end to see
where to begin
The boy you used to know
no longer scared I've got
the strength to love
Maybe these thoughts
show my age

Now that your lesson has been taught
Hope you see that our time wasn't lost
What I am today is because of you
All because of you, you you you

It took the end to see
where to begin
The boy you used to know
no longer scared I've got
the strength to love
Maybe these thoughts
show my age

TV's on I see your face
The skies are crying
It's too late
Why you? It should've been me
For the love of God ! The irony
Lightning strikes
Thunderous clap on my door
I must be dreaming
I fall to the floor
Hand on my shoulder
whisper in my ear
It's OK Dad
Swallow those tears

Mom knew you'd be ready some day
Unfortunate it had to be this way
Together we'll honor her love
She's always watching up above

Add -Lib [The original lyrics repeated the chorus here]

Killer
Love the production,
The bassline is amazing, sounds great in my headphones. Your voice gives me hints of david gilmour, I dont know why, love the harmonies on "the strength to love". One of the most killer ballads i've heard in the year, lightning strikes are great! How do you record the acoustic man? It just sounds fantastic! Very crisp! Great job with the lyrics basketcase!

Cheers

I like the feel of the track and it's a great piece but I think the melody on the verses is a bit flat
A good tips about melody is that you should be able to whistle it easily
very good production too

Thanks for your kind words.
I've got an Eko acoustic  I use two mics an AKG 1000s condesner [good for acoustic guitars] placed about 18" pointing around halfway down the fret board and a shure SM57 about a foot from just past the hole at the start of the fret board . Then put through an ART Gold mic tube preamp [just bought it] then into a Yamaha AW16G workstation, paned about  9-3 with some reverb, not too much.

The song was purposely made to sound the way it is in the verses to give it a theatrical feel to it, so hopefully I've done myself justice in the way the lyrics come across, don't know how it would have sounded with a melodic approach??.. Would be interested to hear other views on it. I've listed to this song so many time, when I first listened to it, I too wondered on some of the notes in the verse, but I've come to like it as it is, I hope it will be the same for others?

Cheers

Hey Denis, this is great man.

Love the acoustic guitar tone, and of course the vocals.  I'm not too convinced by the drums though (some timming issues?).  And the sound FX seems innecessary to me...
Electric guitar sounds awsome, and so does the organ.

All in all, i enjoyed listening to this one a lot... tried really hard to criticise

I first thought you were straining your voice, then I thought 'really good text' , it was then I thought well brought over and well placed Denis !
After reading I can say that you got the theatrical side of it right, it is a sad story and you've thought long about it, sounds that way anyway !
You've fitted a really good lyric, well, into a really good song!
