The Cross | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Ok, so it's an existential crisis in a song. Since y'all seemed to like the last Leonard Cohen-ish song, here's another. Enjoy :-)
Lyrics |
Once in your life could you bear to stop?
I've been hurried and I won't be catching up
We're coming to a cross, and the road is trailing off
And here we must decide
There's a green hill up above called The Skull by some of us
And here we'll rest a while
Take the world it comes and goes,
take all the golden spires -
I won't know
If the sum of my desires is all that Jacob saw
then there's nothing in the world
I'd still want more
My heart is like the gravel on the road
Spread so thin that there's nothing left to hold
And I'm bound to the crossroads like the spider to his silk
Waiting for the wind
When my life is dusted off I'll still be nailed to the cross
Indecision came to me like mother's milk
Take the world, it comes and goes,
take all the golden treasures -
I won't know
If the sum of all my pleasures is all that Rachel had in store
then there's nothing in the world
I'd still want more
Make a list, cross off what you don't want
What you're left with is the sermon on the mount
The pile of fish, growing huge, the need will come, you can't refuse
It's your job to divide
My alibi, I wanted something else
I made sure I took one item off each shelf
Take the world, it comes and goes
take all the summer wine -
I won't know
If the harvest that was mine was planted in Job's orchard
then there's nothing in the world
I'd still want more
I've been hurried and I won't be catching up
We're coming to a cross, and the road is trailing off
And here we must decide

Lovely vocal harmonies, very good lyrics as mentioned by others.
Slightly muffled recording, which is a shame but fixable.
DON'T agree with Blue about changing the key for this one - I think that the lower vocal delivery adds to the ambiance of the whole track.
A simple piece, really well delivered.
Nice
