It could be very interesting. The ideas and motives are wonderful ! But maybe you need someone with very good voice and with sense of ethnic/folk elements in the music. Someone who loves this kind of music.

You have f***ed up the song, its like Backstreet boys version of the song.
The guy sang this song from Kolkatta ki Choti si basti. The guy feels for his girl, he is also bit broke.
You sing for a guy in shiny blue jeans and pink T shirt who just had a date and an ice cream with a girlfriend he is not interested in.

Next time when you sing a college version, feel the person who sang it originally. 
I wish i had never listened to this version.
