A Desolate Landscape
*

This song is not in a battle

Despite my recent prolonged absence from this website, I expect not much has changed since in the way of the number of quasi-classical piano solo pieces around here - 'not many', at a rough estimate.

This is one I worked on between February and April of this year until it reached the state you hear it in now.  I was going for an Eric Whitacre or George Winston type of feel with the chord voicings.

I think it sounds great, my only issue is with the title -- this song does not evoke imagery of a desolate landscape at all. It's very much reminiscent of something Nobou Uematsu would compose to me. I loved it!

I agree with clustertone - there's nothing very desolate about this music.  Actually, "stroll along by a cheerful riverbank-type landscape" suits it better - but that's a bit long as a title.

Lovely bit of music though

Right... I named the song, then rewrote it so it sounded completely different, then forgot to retitle it.  I actually hate giving songs titles, so I may go with that one, Jiminuk.

this is really nice.

it says in your profile you'd like to compose music for film scores. sounds to me like you're well on your way.

oh wow, its so beautiful. It could definatley be in a film score. You could definatley compose for a full orchestra, and I love your playing ability as well.

Yeah, this is just great!

Cant make any comment technically about the music (lack of knowledge), but this is very pleasing to my ears, conjures up images of a cheerfull day!

Would sound awesome recorded performed on a well mic'd baby grand!

Yeah man, I'd love to write for an orchestra too, but it looks like you're a lot more likely to get that job.    It's great, i've no critisicm.

Nice work
Nice work Samurai hearing someone play an instrument that well makes me wish i hadn't quit taking piano lessons as a kid ,

Thanks, everyone.

I actually quit lessons after a year and a half because my teacher was annoying and insulted me pretty much constantly, so I'm mostly self-taught.  I mean, I play much better than I did at the point where I stopped taking lessons, so there.

Daeljan, I care more about whether or not the piece is enjoyable to listen to than if it's technically sound.  I'm the anti-Schoenberg.

It's a midi instrument, but it has a lot more than the standard 128 midi patches, and I recorded it with a direct line out of the piano.  It's a Yamaha, a really nice one at that, and if it were mine I could tell you what model it was.  Alas, I was merely borrowing it for a week to record things.
