Well, this is a cover!  (The original is by Matchbox 20)

It started out as a backing track that I was doing for myself... then progressed onto a backing track for my band (which is now a 3 piece), and then finally I thought I may as well complete it by adding my vocals and guitar!

At the moment, I'm spending so much of my time working on the band material that I rarely have time to complete any of my own stuff... hence posting this - thought you could have a sample of what I've been up to.

Comments would be great.

wow! Nice, polished piece of music. Very professional-sounding. My only comment is that the strings might be a bit too loud in the softer parts. Otherwise, great job, Jim!

Love the quality Jim.This is an awesome take at this song.Yeah strings a bit on the loud side of things and a bit cut off to sharply when it resolves.Maybe some fade out would work a bit cleaner.Man but this is awesome.Your voice is so fkn awesome,I'm way impressed!!!!!!!!!

great job ,you do this song more than justice you owned it!
Gets a great vote it more than deserves it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers guys... yes perhaps the strings could be lowered in the mix a little it's true (and they do cut out a bit too harshly, so I'll look at that for my backing track!)
Glad you enjoyed listening though.
I think this is the first song I've posted where I've not added any harmonies; it's just one (slightly processed) vocal throughout.  Also, this was the first recording with my shure 588SA (really old microphone) after I re-soldered it to work with the standard XLR wiring.... but I digress!!

Your vocals are way better, in my opinion. But something about the keys and guitar rub me the wrong way. Did you not want to replicate the leads/fills? I think that is what is throwing my clock off. This is one of the songs that I teach the most. Without the distorted guitar, the first chord pattern loses something important. If your playing it just on keys, that would explain why you're missing a pm, too. LoL. You could try listening to there piano/accoustic version of the song they have out if that is the way you want to play it.

All in all good work, mate.

WOW! I love this song!  I have no problems with the strings but I would like to hear a stronger guitar in there.  Its all subjective.  This is a great version and I enjoyed every second of it!  Would like to hear more covers around here!  On the playlist, Jim!  Awesome Job!

Yes! cover or not, this is a really cool upload. Cheers Jim
I don't recall the original, so that's a bit plus for me!
Personally it's really good to hear your voice again Jim, and nice to hear what your up to.

"my shure 588SA (really old microphone) after I re-soldered it to work with the standard XLR wiring",
I have an old Ribbon microphone that I'd really like to re-wire too. It now has the female receiver in the mic it's self. I'm sure it will give me a more 'classical' sound than the ones I have now.
Probably why this recording of yours sound so warm.

Hey! Directional digression becomes a point !

It's in my playlist too. Toppy!

Hey!
I do like this myself...  Very well done.... Has all the feel of the original, with some definite JiminUK touches..

Worthy of a rating for sure... Though covers can't go in battles (*legal disclaimer blah blah blah).

Nice job... I might have to see if you can make a backing track for me sometime..  This is really good..

Great recording.

I agree about the strings too. They could be a litter lower in the mix.

But that's only a minor thing.
