TMNT

My take on the classic theme song from the brilliant cartoon televisions series.  I'm running dry on original music recently, so I took to bluesy/rock spins of famous theme songs.  I have a feeling Scooby-Doo is coming next.

Nice effort, although the mood doesn't really reflect those turtles. I liked this one a lot. I have always enjoyed a real violation of the intrinsic mood of a piece. For an example, try finding a copy of Aztec Camera's cover of Van Halen's "Jump" - it's a revelation!

Have you thought of trying the original Spider-Man theme? For that matter, try having a listen to the theme song for "The Tick" cartoon show (Duh-dwee da da da dwee-duh...literally!)

Thanks bro!  The whole idea was to completely change the mood.  I've heard Aztec's cover, it's great.  Spiderman is one of the other ones I am looking at.

Hahaha - I didnt even recognise it until the vocals kicked in.  Gotta agree with stringbreaker tho - it can be great to take completley "violating" the intrinsic mood of old classics...in a positive way of course (though cant say the reggae/club mix of the titanic theme I heard at a club a couple months ago was too great).
And please do make the scooby cover - I can only imagine what it'd sound like haha!

Kawabunga Dude
Dude Like this is way cool !!  You should tweak the mix a little and send it to them  maybe they will play it..
I have a friend JC how wrote a song around the Jason theme ..with words about Jason (horror flick).. and he sent it in .. a real small piece was used for backing track..

maybe tmnt might use it ..you never know.

Mood,
can't help but be the odd nut out..
I listen to it, close my eyes and see
the turtles dressed like cowboys
with their six guns strapped low at
their sides and bellied up to the bar..
Sorry but I don't have any extra
shells Donatello, I shot them all up earlier..
guess I should watch shooting off
at the mouth!

Blessings,

Bluey

I know this is done with some wit, but let me make one serious observation: That guitar tone is quite nice...captures the sound of the old blues git/amp combo. What kind of gear are you using here?

Thanks guys, glad you liked it.

Kobeshi: More covers coming soon.
Chy: Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it that much.
TG: I just might do that...I've never considered that before.  Thanks for the hat tip.
Blue: The bluesy, Muddy Waters-esque feel is what I was going for.  Sort of if the TMNT animated film was done properly.  The dark tone would have suited this piece.
battlecat: I use a guitar amp modelling system on my laptop.  I run a hollowbody Gretsch archtop through a mixer into my laptop, and then use various VSTs from a series of famous guitar effects plugins called Amplitube.

Thanks!

bro
you achieved it too!! good job...  my response
was just me being silly....  there are a few
tv and movie theme songs I've considered
giving the treatment to....  one that comes
to mind first is one I would give a real hard
core bluesy - jazz shift to.... but the ones that
come to mind with me aren't saturday morning
cartoon songs.. I think you couldn't have picked
a better tune either! TMNT is perfect..
you got a Gretsch hollowbody? like the gentleman
series??  had a bud growing up that had a Country
Gentleman... very very nice guitar!! but most all
of the Gretsch hollowbodys I've seen in my live
were all exceptional axes!!  I do like this ibanez deep
body jazz box I got though.. since I dropped the action
as low as possible, set the intonation and put a new
set of strings on her, she is one awesome player!!
the action feels like butter!!! very close to my fretless
wonder black beauty!!
  anyway, keep it up bro!!

Thanks Blue, MAP.

Blue: Yeah, it's a beautiful guitar.  The archtop and hollow body give me sweet tone for everything from jazz to rock.  She's my baby.

I would love you to add some Harp to this.

Great job.

Would like you vox to cut through a bit more, perhaps spread the pan on guitar just enough for the vox to come through.

Thanks Denis.  I was thinking about some harp, but what I really wanted was a blistering blues solo.  As with almost everything I put up here, this isn't the finished version.  The final piece will obviously be more completely, and feature a solo.  Funnily enough I didn't even think of a harp.  I'll see how it turns out.
