Lyrics!!:
Mr Goodtimes
You've been so bad,
and baby, you know I've been a fool.
I laid the law down, you have broken almost every rule.
And now you cry,
beggin' and pleadin' in your beer.
You never knew this woman scorned would be your biggest fear.
Refrain:
Where'd you go Mr. Goodtimes?
Down, down, down to the ground.
Where'd you go Mr. Messin' around?
Down, down, down to the ground.
Where'd you go Mr. Needing No One?
Down, down, down to the ground.
And look at you, now your all on your own,
and I knocked you down,
down to the ground.
And all the women in the world can never make you feel alive,
Loneliness can steal your breath,
I fear that you have almost died.
I must confess all you have done, I've done myself before.
Karma just kicked my ass and knocked me clear out my front door.
Balance restored,
Only hypocrites would criticize.
I'll simply tip my hat,
and wish you all the best in life.

This is awesome in my opinion! The vocal is nice and clear. It could set a bit more comfortably in the mix. It may be a tad too loud. But listen to how present it is as opposed to sounding like a live gig like alot of your stuff does. (not that there is anything wrong with that) I just feel like if you are going for CD quality you're gonna have to lose the reverb. Sorry bro! Anyway, this suits MY taste much more. That doesnt make it right. But i would love to hear what others think! So lay it on us! Hi Ratings!
why do I have the feeling that the backing music isn't complete????? solo at 2:20 is superb and fits perfect
sounds of guitar is not that perfect but has a big taste of Marino's personality.
what an amazing composition. very dark and heavy
ehm now I listened the second time.... and I think I know what I am missing is a brass combo to support the chorus section... well just a matter of (my bad) taste

This is a great composition, great work both of you, keep them coming.
Peronally I dont think the reveb is going to effect the production quality.
The most important thing is the quality of the raw sound before you add the the reverb.
Your production is improving all the time.
In terms of the mix personally the only thing I would change is to raise the vox a bit. and lower the guitar just a little.
High rate

Don't agree with MAP about the reverb, as I think it's about right... but I do agree that Lisa's vox are just a tiny bit too forward in the mix.
There's a "sculptured" feel to the guitar tone (phased, with a dropped mid-level eq, mixed with the reverb) which goes well on this track to my ears.
Bass pretty damn good - a touch more punch would add to the dynamics too.
There are patches in there that have a sublime simplicity.... it makes you focus on the vocals (which, as ever, are delivered just so so well), but it's not until you really listen that you notice what the backing instruments (such as the wah'd guitar) are doing.
The drum sequencing is amazing... I know that you've not had FL for that long - but wow, how do you manage to get the drums just so good?)
Love it..... keep it up guys.

i've heard this before. That quility is amazing. in fact, every aspect of this song is brilliant. imo the vox are perfect, but in the instrumental after the singing stops midway, i think the guitar could be louder or there could be something else going on in there an octave higher.
seriously, u guys are so much better than alot of "pro" acts out there, in britain anyway...

This rocks dude... and Kitty!
I mean, the whole composition is great, well constructed and all.
But I still thinking you need more presence on the guitar... I would happily help you with that.
And dude, use Acoustica Beatcraft for drums... For rock, it rocks!
But anyway the song rules!

awesome just awesome... I love the guitar riffage salad in this.. Lisa your vocals are amazing... especially the verses at 2:50 on out....I love that part...
mix the music feels to squashed (maybe over compressed lacking major dymnamics.). when first laying down tracks I try not to go to much past -10db at about a 1.8 to 2.0 :1 ratio other wise it tends to flatten the dynamics
(punch) You can always tweak it in the software later. I got this idea from the engineer at chapmans recording studio (cause i was over compressing my own stuff).
I think if you back off the compressor some, you will find your tone will brighten up some too.
the vocal are just a tad out front for me, but it still works I think this is still one of your better overall mixes.
Damn good actually. just was trying to help some not really criticizing it..
gonna give it a super high vote cause I just love the song
I want this for my podcast please.

I'll play a bit more with the mix and see what works!
Feel free to put it on your podcast!
Im not sure if it was noticed or not... but there is no reverb on the vocals in this version of the track. That was at my request because it was adding distance to Lisa's vocal. I believe that the vocals are sounding nice and clear in this version. I still think they are a bit above the rest of the mix and could do with some tweaking. Ive seen a couple of comments stating that they dont agree with the no reverb thing. Well, this is what it sounds like with no reverb? Please clarify, those of you who dont agree... Should he add reverb on this version right here or does this version sound good? Cause im confused....
Here's my problem with most of you guys' tracks: they all sound like they were recorded live in a cathedral. The channels that should be centered are spread all over the place and vice verse. That brings me to the over-compression of almost everything I can hear. The rest of what I want to say has already been mentioned.
As for the issue with the vocals: too dry. The reason is because the rest of the track is so compressed and wide---if it was mastered/recorded a little better, the dry vocals could get away. I always put a slight amount of reverb on the vocals because they fatten the tone of the voice up---you then run into the issue of losing the power of vocals. It's a touch-and-go game. MAP, I agree the vocals are too high.
Music itself is great as usual. Silence was used a bit too much, I loved the wah, and solos were typical M shreds and were sweet. I don't think these were Lisa's best vocals by a long, long way, and that is probably because a guy could have sung this. Lisa's vocals are set apart when I hear them and say, "This could never have been sung by a guy." Understand they weren't bad, just a bit on the average side when compared to what I have heard you do.
Is the compression a hardware issue, or do you master like that?

I guess is were I'm at with my mixes but you have some really good points about the spread and vocals so dose Goat(GTR) so hopefully I'll be addressing this is issues as I move forward.Man mixing and mastering are like a whole different instrument I just need to do mistakes so i know what I'm doing wrong I guess!
Thx Avi for the feedback an Ideas!
And to everyone else too!

It's a personal taste thing..... I like a little less reverb but Dan our singer in Toastedgoat likes lots of reverb and delay both.
I think it sounds to over processed and effected at times. The difference is he loves the 80's hair bands more than I do.. personal taste.. I would mix it to whatever you feel is best for Lisa's voice..try different room sizes and adjust the length on em.. I play around with the room sizes and pre delays and lengths an almost every song. Plus you might try panning the reverb out of the mix just a hair. and burying it more.into the background. I bus out to the fx so they have their own channel that way I can control the eq's and autotmation I can use a long time setting but kill the after ring by quickly killing the fx channel volume (fader). I would suggest just playing around with it and see what happens..
I know a lot of the current pro artist do not use hardly any big verb or delays....but they do lots of overlays and 5 or 6 different takes mixed together plus copy and offsets among other studio tricks.
don't know if this helps any or not
